Happy Holidays from Caldera!

As 2015 comes to a close, we extend heartfelt gratitude to the Caldera community for all your support, enthusiasm, and dedication to our youth and mission this year.

We couldn't do this work without you, and as we embark on our 20th anniversary year in 2016, we look forward to celebrating with you all. Happy holidays and may your new year be full of creativity!
Donate to Caldera Through Give!Guide

Caldera is honored to be one of the 143 ‘most impactful’ Portland nonprofits featured in this year’s Willamette Week Give!Guide. By supporting Caldera and other nonprofits you are actively engaging in your community and making it a better place to live for everyone.

At the end of the Give!Guide, one lucky Caldera donor ($20 or above) will be given a prize package from Daddies Board Shop. The prize includes a Rayne Vendetta Gosha Longboard, a Triple Eight Brainsaver helmet, and longboarding lessons with Marisa Nuñez (one of the fastest female longboarders in the world). Donate here by December 31!
Double Your 2015 Contribution with the Oregon Cultural Trust

Caldera is a proud partner of the Oregon Cultural Trust (OCT). OCT is uniquely Oregon: through donations to cultural organizations and a special tax credit, Oregonians can double direct cultural funding to their communities. Here’s how: 1) donate to Caldera, 2) make your matching donation (any donation from 2015 counts) to OCT, and 3) get 100% of your match back as a tax credit! For more information, visit www.culturaltrust.org.

Welcome 2016 Artists in Residence

Caldera is excited to announce our 2016 Artists in Residence. Read more here about the 21 visual, literary, and performing artists from around the world that have been chosen for one-month stays at our Arts Center on Blue Lake in Central Oregon.

We invite you to meet these artists, hear about their creative process, and see their individual work as well as work created with our students during our Open Studios series. Free and open to the public, Open Studios are the last Saturday of each month of residency– January 30, February 27, and March 26 from 1:00 p.m.–3 p.m.
Youth Program Update

Our youth, mentors, and teaching artists have been busy digging into their creativity! Central Oregon high school students attended a performance by musician and author James McBride–and got to meet him after the show and had a multi-session workshop with Mosley WOtta where they created original spoken word pieces. MOWO also taught an all-school residency at Obsidian Middle School!

In Portland, high school students had a printmaking workshop series that included touring Mt. Hood Community College and creating fish prints with their fisheries staff. During the Fall Weekend Intensive, over 40 youth participated in a variety of workshops and high school students planted trees to help create an Urban Fruit Trail with artist collaborative, Fallen Fruit! This month, we also hosted our Annual Alumni Party for Caldera alumni to connect and celebrate.
Caldera Honored at the White House!

On November 17, Caldera was honored with a National Arts & Humanities Youth Program Award. Caldera is the first nonprofit in Oregon to ever receive this prestigious award–the nation's highest honor for creative youth programs!

Executive Director, Tricia Snell, and youth representative, Alena Nore, accepted the award from First Lady Michelle Obama during a ceremony at the White House. You can see more photos from their journey here and read more about the award
here. Stay tuned for a short film about their experience coming in the new year!
Success at Portland Stories of Change

Last month, Caldera celebrated with a crowd of nearly 350 at our annual Portland Stories of Change fundraiser. Together, our supporters donated over $400,000 that will directly support our Youth Program! You can watch the films from the event here and photos are up on our Facebook page.

A big heartfelt thank you to all who attended, donated, volunteered, and supported the event. We look forward to sharing more stories of transformation with you all at next year's Stories of Change. Save the date now for Central Oregon on October 1, 2016 and Portland on November 17, 2016
