GCVS Everyone’s Children

Fariha Thomas will be leaving her post at GCVS Everyone’s Children project at the end of the year. She will continue to undertake some specific pieces of work for the project beyond that, but will no longer be the main contact for the project.  We would like to thank Fariha for her hard work and contribution to the project over the last two years.  If you have any queries beyond the 18th December, Fariha’s last working day, please contact iona.macaulay@gcvs.org.uk   0141 271 2319.

Final draft of the statutory guidance for parts 4, 5 and 18

Scottish Government has published its final draft of the statutory guidance for parts 4, 5 and 18 of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014. The revised draft guidance, which includes an outline of key changes to the original consultation version and Q&A is available here: www.gov.scot/girfec

Third Sector Touchpoint published

Third Sector Touchpoint is a checklist to help third sector organisations prepare for parts 4,5 and 18 of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2015, due to come into force in August 2016. These relate to: The Provision of Named Persons; The Child’s Plan; Assessment of Wellbeing.
Touchpoint is a planning tool and should be used in a way that reflects each organisation’s own context and operational circumstances, and in conjunction with other relevant materials, tools and guidelines. Two versions are available:

  • 'Targeted support': for third sector organisations likely to be: delivering targeted support to children and young people; funded by grant aid or commissioned to provide these services
  • ‘Prevention’: for third sector organisations delivering primary prevention services to children, young people and families.

January 20th 9.30 -12.00 9.30 -12.00   Trainers from GCC Education Services. This training is only open to those who attended the introductory training in August 2015.

Compassionate Connections Storyworlds

February 3rd 10am - 3pm – an innovative approach to developing person-centred approaches to all aspects of delivering support This training is an introduction to the resource for third sector organisations, across Scotland. This is particularly useful to those who work with children and families using a casework approach.  The trainers are from NHS Education for Scotland. If you would like to know more about the Compassionate Connections Programme you can see more on the Knowledge Network website.

Free Child Protection training – ongoing calendar of opportunities

Glasgow Child Protection Committee training is aimed at all staff in Glasgow who work with children, whether as their main contact or indirectly through contact with another family member. The training is delivered on a multi agency basis, and is free of charge to participants.  More info..

Everyone’s Children may offer Child Protection basic awareness training in conjunction with Social Work in 2016 so watch this space for more information.
 

Training for adults: online safety of children and young people

Respect Me, Scotland’s Anti-Bullying Service, is offering free practical training for adults about online safety of children and young people. The training is designed to increase adults’ awareness of bullying and the other risks and challenges children and young people face online. It includes a practical, hands-on session looking at how to set and manage profiles and privacy settings on social media, to help ensure that children and young people are safe online.  Respect Me also have a range of other resources on their website.

Inspiring confidence in young people

A day designed for professionals working to support young people in the community.
The Albany Centre Thurs 11 February 2016 9.30am - 4.30pm
COSTS: £142 Member, £195 Non Member (bursaries may be available for smaller organisations eg annual income up to around £150,000)
This one day programme looks at some factors that may undermine the confidence of young people, and examines ways that they can be supported to face the future with confidence and self belief.

Big Lottery Fund to Open New Funding Opportunities for Scotland

The Big Lottery Fund has opened its new funding opportunities for Scotland for application. They have announced a new five-year £250 million funding scheme, with a focus on helping people and communities most in need.  More...
 

John Watson's Trust

John Watson's Trust awards grants for educational purposes to children and young people under the age of 21 who have a physical or learning disability, or who are socially disadvantaged. The committee meets five times each year and provides grants ranging from £30 to £2,000.  More...
 

Nurturing Talent - Time to Shine Fund

Creative Scotland’s 'Nurturing Talent – Time to Shine Fund' aims to support young people aged 14-20 living in Scotland. Individuals can apply for up to £200 in funding while groups of two or more people can apply for up to £750. Applications from professional arts organisations will not be accepted.  Deadline 17th January.  More...


Scotrail Cultural and Arts Fund

The Fund, created by Abellio ScotRail will award £40,000 by the end of January 2016, followed by £10,000 each quarter until January 2017. Those awarded grants under the scheme will be expected to use the funds to promote creativity, the arts, community recreation, sports themes and other cultural activity, as well as celebrate Scotland's cultural heritage in its full diversity.  First Deadline 31st December 2015.  More...
 

People's Postcode Trust: Small Grants Programme: £500 - £20,000

New deadline announced for South of England, Scotland and Wales: 30th April 2016.  More...
 

2015 Starbucks Youth Action Programme Launched

UK Youth and Starbucks Coffee Company have launched the 2015 Starbucks Youth Action programme. Youth workers working with young people aged 16 - 24 that are not in education or employment can get up to £1,000 funding to support them to run a social action programme, with an additional contribution for their time.
Applications are accepted and assessed on a rolling basis until March 2016.  More...

The Inclusion Five (or iFive) was created to provide guidance to staff on evidencing their practice and to highlight the importance of understanding the various stages of inclusion.The iFive consists of two booklets (one for staff and one for the people we support), an action plan for staff to record their practice and an evidence folder for their service. New briefing on ‘The Child’s Free Narrative in Child Protection Investigations

Several approaches to interviewing children and young people who are subject to child protection investigations have been developed, including knowledge and skills for interviewers in encouraging free narrative. WithScotland has recently published this research.  More...
