SCHOOLS NorthEast welcomed the chief of Ofsted’s calls for London Challenge-style education improvement in the North and for greater efforts to tackle the growing teacher recruitment crisis.

However, it did question the rhetoric of a “deeply troubling” divide between the North and South, saying that schools in the North East of England had been on a positive upward trend in inspection outcomes and was only a handful of positive judgements away from the national benchmark.

An event with hands-on activities for pupils from Y5-Y1, providing them with the opportunity to mix with adults from the world of STEM occupations and experience a carousel of activities from building and programming robots to creating their own toothpaste. Find out more about it here

Enterprise Programme
The programme will emphasise the link between hard work and making money. This will culminate in a fun day of practical selling at The Alnwick Garden. Each group will work with their mentor to create a small business plan and develop a product or service. More info here.

Schools Northeast   It's the first week of December so it's only fair we start the month off with a festive article. Hilary French, Head Teacher at Newcastle High School for Girls. writes in her article titled 'Tis the season to be jolly that we should not restrict the merriment to only 12 days of the year. She says: "In schools happiness start with the Head - so if and when you next see me and I'm grinning like a Cheshire Cat I'm being positive and upbeat to start the ripple effect that will create a positive, happy community." Waldorf School of the Peninsula prefers a more hands-on, experiential approach to learning and the pedagogy there emphasises the role of imagination in learning and takes a holistic approach that integrates the intellectual, practical and creative development of pupils, most of whom are children of Silicon Valley tech giants employees. Schools Northeast   A survey of more than 1,100 parents in England found that 55% had never spoken to their children about stress, anxiety or depression, 20% of them admitting they did not know how to address the issue. The poll which was conducted on behalf of the Time to Change campaign also found that 45% of parents felt they did not need to have the conversation because mental health "was not an issue", but the campaign warns that one in 10 will experience a mental health problem.
