Our updates can always be accessed at http://cheylesmoreward.wix.com/teamcheylesmore

Can you see the photos?
Our weekly updates now contains many photos, however some residents have reported that they can’t see them.
One solution to this problem is to Click on "view it in your browser”, which is written in small print in the top right hand corner of all the updates.

Here is the Coventry Telegraph Article

Exminster Road & Brathay Close Road Works
Throughout the year we regularly report roads and pavements that are in need of resurfacing. Earlier this year both Exminster Road and Brathay Close received resurfacing works with a Micro Ashfelt surface.

The contractors will be returning to do ‘iron work’ around the man hole covers. These two roads will be closed on Monday 14th December to all vehicles, with a restricted access for emergency vehicles and residents only, to enable the works to take place.

Poorly Maintained Rear Access
A number of residents have contacted us regarding concerns over the side entrances and rear access roads to their properties.

Often, such routes (rear access paths / roads) are not Council owned property, but are co-owned by themselves and adjacent properties.

Sometimes, there is a requirement to maintain or keep the road or pathways accessible.

Sadly, some property owners do not maintain their side / rear access paths and this can sometimes result in potential disputes between neighbours.

Mark visited one such cluster of properties this week, and, with the assistance of a Council officer, is currently assisting residents in an attempt to encourage various owners to maintain their property’s ‘rear access’.

Timing of Traffic Lights
Last week a number of concerned residents emailed us about the traffic light timings, here is one of them:
I am extremely worried about the timings of the traffic lights at the Asda London Road Island, because of the long green light for the London Road traffic it causes a massive tail back on all other roads . The traffic build up for people queuing around the island to go to asda, Humber Road and Langbank Avenue cause tailback on London Road to Chase Ave and the queues make it dangerous going around the island if you come from Humber Road to be faced by cars blocking the road to town. It just needs the timings to be altered to have the sequence of the lights change quicker.

Roger contacted the Traffic Management Department and within a few hours received this from Sunil Budhdeo, Transport Innovation Manager

We have amended the timings to reduce the congestion on other approaches as stated in your email, please do not hesitate to contact me if you incur further problems.

Leaf Lane Signage
Following many requests from residents regarding paint covered road signs or missing road signs, some repairs to signs in Leaf Lane have started.

Mark wanted to express his thanks to the diligence and persistence of various residents in reporting these broken and missing signs and he has also been in communication with officers to ensure these signs are eventually re-instated and / or repaired.

Our Recent 60 Second Survey
During the past few weeks, we have distributed a considerable number of surveys to various areas across the ward.

Mark would like to thank everyone for their responses and comments. A considerable number of issues were raised which Team Cheylesmore are currently absorbing and where possible or appropriate, contacting the respective resident.

So far the surveys produced this result on the Combined Authority Issue:
Combined Authority (CA) Survey Result:
76% of residents said they wanted a referendum on Coventry joining a West Midlands (Greater Birmingham) Combined Authority.
16% of residents said they did not want a referendum.
8% said they were not sure.
A clear indication that most residents desire a referendum on the recent decision by Labour to proceed with Coventry joining a CA.
You can download a copy of our survey, if you’d also like to have your say.

Coundon Christmas Lights Switch On
Earlier this week, Mark attended this occasion, which raises funds for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice.

This annual event is becoming more popular each year and despite it being in Coundon, Mark met quite a few Cheylesmore residents there.

So far this year over £2,500 had been raised.

Historic Markers Missing
Dear Cllr Bailey
I saw your letter in today’s Telegraph regarding the markings for the wall in Spon Street. I would like to assure you that those markings will be reinstated along with the similar markings in Hill St.  You may also have noticed that we reinstated the markings for Gosford Gate.  One of the aims of the work we are doing is to make the city’s attractions more accessible and to showcase them much more effectively (eg the Council House, Old Grammar School, Holy Trinity and now St Johns).  We are also nearing the end of a massive tidy up and repair of the Hill Top conservation area and, as you know, we have aligned the new setted roadway in front of Holy Trinity to follow the line of Butchers Row and demarked the eastern kerbline of Broadgate. Hopefully you have also seen the new public realm from Gosford St towards Whitefriars. Interpreting the city’s history and enhancing its heritage is uppermost in our minds and a bit of a personal crusade for me if I am honest.

I am not sure which markers were removed in Trinity Street, but if you could tell me what they were we can look to see if we can reinstate them.

Regards,
Colin Knight Assistant Director (Planning, Transport and Highways)

European news affecting the advertising of UK job vacancies
Mark believes that residents may be interested to know that Conservative MEP and employment spokesperson Anthea McIntyre has been instrumental in securing an important amendment to regulations governing EURES, a website used by people across Europe seeking employment.

Existing rules insist that all vacancies advertised in UK job centres must also be posted on the EU-wide site.  Since December 2014 the UK Government has given British firms the choice to opt out, but this position remained open to legal challenge.  Read more
