Welcome to St Clement’s, a contemporary, Redemptorist retreat and conference centre set on 800 acres in a tranquil, picturesque setting in rural New South Wales, Australia. The Redemptorists are a religious congregation of priests and brothers within the Catholic Church who live in community for the sake of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, especially among people on the margins of society and church.

Come and visit
us in 2016

St Clement's next year will once again offer a wide range of retreats spanning liturgy, music, art, healing and guided reflections for men and women of all ages, clergy, religious and lay people.

The year's activities begin with the popular music retreat weekend on 5 to 7 February.

Singers, musicians and all people interested in music for liturgy are invited to spend a weekend to pray, rest and explore the liturgy with presenters Sr Carmel Pilcher RSJ and Sr Margaret Cusack RSJ. This is an opportunity to explore music resources, workshop issues, network with musicians and singers from other parishes, learn new music, develop support for those with fewer resources, pray together and be renewed.

Join us to pray and paint

Join a “pop-up” art community for fellowship, for learning and to bring a contemplative spirit and shared wisdom to your art work. Come and enjoy the inspiration with other artists and St Clement’s artist-in-residence Sue Orchison on 12 to 14 February.

Married couples weekend

This retreat will be a series of guided reflections drawing on the wisdom of the Christian vision of marriage and family. It will consider some of the cultural forces that shape modern relationships. Presented by former editor of The Majellan Family magazine Fr Michael Gilbert CSsR, lay theologian Christian Jacobs-Vandegeer and his wife Jennifer, it will be held on the weekend of 11 to 13 March.

Come on Emmaus Journey

The first of two Emmaus Journey week-long retreats will be held on 7 to 11 March. It will be presented by Fr David Hore CSsR, who ministers in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and who knows St Clement's well having undertaken his novitiate at Galong.

This retreat is tailored for older and retired men and women to help them reflect peacefully on the daily blessings of God and on God's faithful and unfailing presence in their lives.

From the Rector

Dear Friends,

Change is in the air! We begin a new liturgical year with the season of Advent and we are called to reflect on our life as we live it in our relationship with the Lord and each other. Things come and things go; it is a reality of life and this New Year gives us the opportunity to let go of what hinders us as we move forward with trust and confidence.

The last week of November saw a large gathering of Redemptorists coming together at St Clement's to reflect on our Mission in the world and make decisions that move us forward.  We had to make some decisions that called for change and one was to change the name of our province to reflect more accurately our multicultural and geographical face. We have now become the Province of Oceania.

To celebrate this occasion a new sacred space was created at St Clement's out of the old buttery. It honours our Redemptorist Missioners of the past as we move into our future. This sacred space is now known as St Alphonsus’ Chapel of the Most Holy Redeemer. Br Clement unveiled the sign and the Provincial Fr Edmond Nixon blessed the building and planted a tree as a sign of new growth. And speaking of trees, a small avenue of trees were planted and called Martyrs Walk in memory of those Redemptorists martyred for the Faith. We were privileged to have the former provincial of the Ukraine, Fr Ihor, now working in our province, to unveil and bless this Walk. Ukrainian and Spanish Redemptorists, martyred for the Faith, are among our saints and blesseds.

Change is challenging and how we adjust can be a sign of our maturity. Br Clement has made the hard and courageous decision to move into Harden Southern Cross Care. He is still a member of the Galong Redemptorist Community and he continues his mission as a Redemptorist in his new home. Southern Cross Care management asked him to be a pastoral presence to the residents of the Home. You are welcome to visit and Clem would be pleased to see you.

Changes, there are more! I have been asked to move to Brighton in Melbourne where the Majellan magazine is published. Fr John Ariey from Auckland will be the new rector at St Clement's assisted by Fr Pat O’Neill. These changes take effect from February 2016. I have loved my time here as, coming from the bush myself, I love the people of the bush. As hard as the change is, there is always the grace that goes with the challenge.

May I take this opportunity to thank Br Clem and our late confrere Br Frank, our manager Sue Rolfe and all the Team for their generous love of St Clement's Retreat Centre that makes this place spiritual and hospitable for people to come and rest awhile. And to you, dear friends, who come here, thank you for your friendship, which continues.

Blessings, and may the feast of the Christ Child bring peace and blessings to you and your family throughout the Year.

Fr Bill Goldman CSsR.
