A Year-End Message from Executive Director Sara Reynolds
As so many of our members know, this year has marked many accomplishments and success among our membership community. Housing Colorado’s membership continues to grow and diversify, which makes our voice stronger, and the relationships you form within our community deeper and more valuable.  We highlight this because our success is entirely member-driven – so when we consider our accomplishments this year, it is undoubtedly a direct result of the commitment you... (continue reading)

Committee Spotlight: Membership Committee
Membership plays a vital role in Housing Colorado: it unites organizations across the state and U.S. to collectively work towards the preservation and production of affordable housing in Colorado. Housing Colorado is only as strong as its membership base, so to ensure we are a unified community that represents the diverse needs of the entire industry, the Membership Committee actively recruits new members and retains current members. Learn more about the Membership Committee.

In Case You Missed It! Holiday Luncheon
On Friday, December 11, over 130 members of Housing Colorado gathered at the festively decorated Lakewood Country Club. The Annual Holiday Luncheon, sponsored again this year by KeyBank, is a signature event where we gather as a membership community to reflect on the previous year, thank our volunteers for their hard work, and ratify the 2016 Board appointees. See what you missed

Policy Update

Legislation to reform rental assistance gets bipartisan approval
A bill proposing reforms to federal rental assistance passed out of the House Financial Services Committee on a strong bipartisan vote on Dec. 10. The Housing Opportunity Through Modernization Act (HOTMA, HR 3700), sponsored by Subcommittee Chair Blaine Leutkemeyer (R-MO), will likely be heard by the House, and then the Senate, in the new year. Click here for more details on the three main areas targeted for improvement by HOTMA, and here for a comparison of the proposed reforms and current law, both from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

Spending bill deal struck, continuing resolution in place
A deal on a $1.1 trillion dollar spending bill that would fund the government through October of 2016 and avert a government shutdown was struck on Dec. 15, after much debate across the aisle in Congress. To keep the government open while the final legislation is passed, Congress on Dec. 16 – before funding expired at midnight – voted to extend the current continuing resolution. Lawmakers have until Dec. 22 to pass a year-long spending package for FY 2016.
