Dear wolf advocate
Good news! Our actions to protect the gray wolf are working in the US congress. For now we have a victory to celebrate. Yesterday Congressional leaders unveiled a $1.15 trillion federal funding agreement and the final Omnibus package did not include a policy “rider” that would have legislatively removed the Great Lakes gray wolf from the federal Endangered Species List. The formerly proposed rider would have reversed the 2014 federal appeals court judge’s decision that placed Great Lakes wolves back under federal protection.
We are pleased that Congress recognized that they should leave politics out of the Endangered Species Act. Congresswoman Betty McCollum stood firmly with the wolf and with all of us who made calls and emails stating that wolves need protection. We thank Congresswoman McCollum and the congressional leadership who stood up for the wolf.
