Festive turnout for cross country runners

West Hatch High School's cross country runners ended their first term with the annual Christmas fun run.

The early Wednesday morning runners donned Santa hats, elf suits and even a snowman outfit to take to the streets of Chigwell and Woodford for the last time this year.

PE teacher Aaron D'Silva said: "Although it was a gloomy morning, that didn't dampen the spirits of the 21 runners that took part. This was a record turnout and we conquered another three miles passing the on-looking motorists hoping to spread some festive cheer and perhaps some inspiration come the new year!"

This term the group has run almost every week. Working on an average of three to four miles each week, the students have covered some 45 miles.

Mr D'Silva added: "A special mention must go to the two Year 11 girls (Renee Fonseca and Nikita Roberts) who have continued to run with me since Year 7."
