PARKS & RECREATION NEWS
Please Keep Sidewalks Clear of Snow and Ice
Per City of Marion Ordinance 141.03 “Removal of Snow, Ice and Accumulations,” property owners are required maintain their sidewalks. All snow and ice shall be cleared within 12 hours after it has stopped. If you have any questions or would like to report a property that is in violation of this ordinance, please call 319-447-3580.

Family Programs

NEW! Curling Clinic
Join the Cedar Rapids Curling Club as they teach all the ins and outs of curling. This clinic will feature demonstrations and a live round of curling by the experts. Participants will get to try the equipment out for themselves as well. Weather permitting.

NEW! Snowman Selfies
Snap a selfie with your snowman and send it to tireland@cityofmarion.org. Please include your contact information and name of your cool snowman. Pictures will be posted to the Marion Parks and Recreation’s Facebook page and the Snowman Selfie with the most “Likes” at the end of the program will receive a prize from the department.
Fee: FREE, prizes awarded for photos with most “Likes”
Dates: Submit your selfie anytime January through February

B-I-N-G-O Night
Join us for a night of fun, socializing, and a chance to win some cash! Games of BINGO will be played for $0.25 per card, per game and we will pay back cash prizes to the winner of each game. There will also be a few bonus games. The night will conclude with a winner-take-all game of blackout. Participants are welcome to bring food and drinks to enjoy while they play. Doors to the Arts and Environment Center at Lowe Park will open at 6 p.m.

Youth Programs
Kid Crafters
Children Ages 3–6
Come join and socialize with other kids your age as we create different seasonal crafts and art projects each session. Parents are encouraged to participate with their child. This program is supported by the Marion Arts Council. Limit 15 participants.
Fee: $25
Days/Dates: Thursdays, Feb. 4–25

Adult Programs
Adult Team Trivia Night
Ages 18+
Bring your thinking caps and useless trivial knowledge to compete against other teams of adults in fun and challenging rounds of trivia. Categories will include, but are not limited to: pop culture, movies, music, sports, history, brand recognition and more. Participants are welcome to bring food and drinks to share with their team. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams. Minimum of 6 teams; Maximum of 12 teams.
Fee: $75 per team (Max: 8 people per team)
Date: Saturday, Feb. 27
Time: 6-9 p.m. (Doors open at 5:30 p.m.)

NEW! Adult Art Class
Adults Ages 18+
Join local art instructor, Mike Brandt, for some interactive adult art classes this winter at Lowe Park. There will be a total of 6 different classes offered. These classes are appropriate for all ability levels, from beginner on up. Your registration fee covers all supplies. Limited number of spots available each session.
Available Sessions & Topics
Session 1: Parent/Child Class→ This class gives the parent and child duo an opportunity to create art TOGETHER. Each person will create their own painting and a project together.
Session 2: Acrylic Painting→ Anyone can do this! This class will use acrylic paint to create a colorful tree. Don’t miss this chance to explore the world of acrylic painting.
Session 3: Watercolor Pen & Ink→ A chance to create a pen and ink watercolor painting. Learn the proper techniques of pen and ink along with watercolor painting.
Session 4: Pointalism Painting→ Explore the technique made famous by Georges Seurat. Pointalism is an easy and fun way to be creative.
Session 5: Acrylic Painting→ Anyone can paint! Explore the world of acrylic painting with step by step instruction to paint a silhouette or bird painting.
Session 6: Primary Color Painting→ Anyone can paint! Students pick a subject and work with the primary/secondary colors to create a unique painting.
Fee: Session 1: $55 per pair (parent/child)
         Sessions 2-6: $35 per person, per session

Geranium Cutting Workshop
Wednesday, Jan. 13

Lowe Park Greenhouse
If you want an early glimpse of spring, join the Linn County Master Gardeners for this geranium cutting workshop. We will be propagating geraniums that will be used in the parks, demonstration gardens and the Spring Plant Sale. If you want to learn about propagation by cuttings, or just want to volunteer and enjoy the company, please plan to attend.
