Tis the season.  As we enter Christmas Week I have to remind myself that we are nearing our half-way point. Our year is going so well. Our students are learning so many things, and to such a wonderful level of mastery.
Come over and visit our school this week, you will see that the excitement of our children. The sights and sounds of Christmas are all around us! Fun days but full days here at school, also in your homes, I’m sure. Please God, our excitement will draw us to Church to celebrate our faith as families and to acknowledge that it is because of Jesus’ Incarnation that our hearts are so full. Let us behold His presence in one another as we go about these very busy days and give thanks that He reveals Himself to others as we “reflect God’s goodness: and stand together for Justice.”

Pre-schoolers learned what it means to have an early out this week! Besides that, we learned all about the letter K and the number 11. Kindness was our main focus for the week. Also, we learned about Kangaroos, Kings, and Keys. Another fun thing we explored was how holiday letters get to our loved ones. We are thankful for our post office workers!

We worked with the letter Nn this week---did you know Nativity starts with N? We also learned the sight word to. In math we are adding and subtracting --- everything! We have a visitor from the North Pole in our room watching us--his name is Edward and he is one of Santa's Elves. We are very excited about our upcoming Christmas program--Tuesday December 22, hope you can be there.

In reading this week read read some silly stories that made us laugh. We worked with words that have the long /a/ sound and we learned about verbs. In math we are working with grouping ones into new groups of ten. We have also had concert practice this week as we prepare for our Christmas concert next Tuesday. Merry Christmas from first grade!!!

In reading class this week we compared and contrasted 3 versions of the Fairy Tale Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. We also practiced creating a summary of these stories using the main ideas from the beginning, middle and end of the stories. We enjoyed some extra craft time this week as we made gifts for our parents, and extra music time as we prepared for our Christmas concert next week.

In the third grade classroom we have been enjoying a new class read aloud titled "The Angel Tree". In math are have been working hard with multi-step word problems and we also started to work with pictographs and bar graphs. In reading we are continuing to read our book selections from E.B. White. This week we also wrote back to our pen pals from Hancock. We also started practicing for our upcoming Christmas program which is on Tuesday, December 22nd at 7:00 pm at the Assumption Church.

This week has been a busy one for our fourth graders. They are in a unit focusing on place value in math. We are already in the millions! The children have been working very hard in music class to get ready for our Christmas program. The program is Tuesday the 22nd at 7:00. Mrs. Hodgson is amazing and so are the students! If you are looking to get into the spirit of Christmas you should join us!

This week in fifth grade we read more fairy tales. We also learned that many fairy tales have several versions told in other cultures. The students researched a fairy tale and then compared and contrasted the cultural differences between the two. The students also worked on collecting data and creating circle graphs. They each were able to create their own survey question and involve 20 people in order to make their graph. The students enjoyed this project! We have been taking time reflecting on our Advent theme for the week, Joy. We talked about God's perfect gift and how we can share the good news with others!

We are having a very productive week in sixth grade! Even with the early out on Wednesday, we managed to finish our science unit about Life Science. We take a big unit test next week before we go on vacation. We've read a funny story about life in the city in reading class, started working on memorizing the books of the Old Testament in religion class, and we took a math test about fractions. But more than anything, we are excited to get Christmas Vacation started. One more week!
