Summer joy!
Staying healthy and happy this summer.
Dear <<First Name>>,
Welcome Summer! I hope you're enjoying the long days and warmth as much as I am. Christmas and the end of the year are just around the corner and ideally you're starting to wind down right about now ... well that's the plan right? Unfortunately, for many people this time of year is hectic and stressful. There’s Christmas and holiday planning, increased social commitments, financial demands and, depending on your industry, work deadlines (does "get it finished before Christmas" sound familiar?) or increased work hours (that's you retail and hospitality people).
You may be feeling stressed, stretched, tired and not sleeping or eating as well as you’d like. You don’t have to feel like you’re just hanging in there. If you’re counting down the days until you can collapse in a heap, remember:
- Breathe! Even just a few moments of conscious breathing will help you de-stress and create a sense of space.
- Create a “don’t do” list. What are the non-essential things that can be taken off your to-do list? Do you need to attend every end of year social event? Does the oven really need a through clean right now? The world won’t stop if something isn’t completed before Christmas.
- Book a kinesiology or holistic wellness session. Re-set, re-charge and re-balance.
The energy of Summer is expansive (Yang), which is all about movement and activity. With the longer days and sunshine, you'll have more desire to get out into the world, socialise and connect.
In Chinese Medicine, Summer is associated with the Fire element. The colour of Summer is red, the emotion is joy and the sound is laughter.
- Balanced Fire is expressed as satisfaction and living with joy, passion and laughter in your daily activities.
- Unbalanced Fire can be expressed as agitation, mania or depressive symptoms.
Late Summer is associated with the Earth element. The colour of late Summer is yellow, the emotion is sympathy, and the sound is singing.
- Balanced Earth is expressed as appropriate nurturing (of self and others), being grounded and connected.
- Unbalanced Earth can be expressed as overthinking, excessive giving, overeating and worry.
It’s been wonderful working with you throughout 2015! I’ll be taking a short break from Thursday 24 December and will return to clinic on Thursday 07 January. I’ll be ready and waiting to help you tackle your new year resolutions. Make 2016 your year of change!
Wishing you a happy and safe festive season. I look forward to seeing you soon!
