3) Engage PEI

http://www.gov.pe.ca/engagepei/
Government recognizes that engaging the perspectives of Islanders is vital to effective government.

Engage PEI offers Islanders an opportunity to become involved in one of the nearly 70 government agencies, boards and commissions.

The various agencies, boards and commissions can be grouped into three functional categories: advisory – provides information that assists in developing public policy and ongoing delivery of programs; operational – provides goods or services to implement government policy and programs; and regulatory – grants licenses, monitors practices to ensure public safety, oversees operations of public and private sector entities.

All Islanders are encouraged to consider ways in which they can contribute to the public life of our province. Working together, we can achieve great things for Prince Edward Island.  Review the FAQ section to learn more about Engage PEI and how to become involved.  Although most agencies, boards and commissions are represented by experts and practitioners in their respective fields, the perspectives of ordinary Islanders is also needed.

Consider serving on the Learning Partners Advisory Council (LPAC)
This Council is part of the new model for education and learning in the province. Central to this new model is government’s desire to enhance transparency and accountability, build civic capacity and promote open and inclusive policy-making in education that will deliver better results and lead our education and learning systems towards excellence.
To enable this important work to begin, review of nominations will start on December 18, 2015. Nominations will continue to be accepted until all positions are filled. How to apply  (Source:  Engage PEI website)

There are also openings coming up in the new year on the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, along with others. Check out this link, Upcoming Vacancies on the Engage PEI website, for more info and deadlines to apply.

6) Want to Learn Something New in January in the Charlottetown Area?

City Centre Community School is a place to learn something new, have fun and meet members of your community during the cold and sometimes isolating winter months on Prince Edward Island. We welcome all members of the Charlottetown community and PEI to participate in a new selection of courses beginning in January 2016 for ten weeks at Colonel Gray High School.

With a committee led by young adults from around Charlottetown, the City Centre Community School is building on an existing community school platform. The goal is to raise awareness of the community school system in PEI, increasing its participation levels and the program’s sustainability for years to come. City Centre’s classes run on Tuesday evenings, 7:00pm – 8:30pm. Courses cost $20.00 for ten weeks! The evening includes a short break for community time, which gives a chance for students and instructors to share what they have learned or simply enjoy some snacks and conversation.
