NDIS rollout in South Australia

The Commonwealth and South Australian governments have reached agreement on details of the full roll out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in South Australia.

Transition will begin in February 2016 and once roll out is complete, it is estimated over 32,000 South Australians will transition to the NDIS.

The transition period will build on the existing state-wide trial for 0-14 year olds.

From February 2016 all 0-14 year olds that have not yet had access to the NDIS will be able to access the scheme.

15–17 year olds will transition from 1 January 2017. From July 2017 South Australian adults aged 18-64 will transition by geographical area, based on the state’s disability service regions. The first regions to transition will be the Barossa, Light and Lower North, and the Local Government Areas of Playford, Salisbury and Port Adelaide Enfield (East).

Today’s announcement gives disability service providers the opportunity to begin planning for the transition to a competitive open market and to secure a stable workforce.

The announcement does not have an immediate impact on current transition arrangements for service providers. Existing funding arrangements with the Department of Social Services continue to apply.

As we continue with transition, the Department of Social Services will communicate specific information regarding your local area and your role in the roll out.

More information on the NDIS roll out, including today’s announcement for South Australia, is available at www.ndis.gov.au
