You can see some pics below of our friend Roger (pronounced Roher) and his young family. Roger is an indigenous Panamanian from the Ngobe people and we have known him almost a year. He is a hard worker and good man.
He wants to create a better life for his family and has been going to college to become an English teacher. But we heard he had stopped going to classes because he was too busy working and trying to build a home for his small family. He just can't do it all.
And you can see from the pics, and others at this link, why it has become important to have his own home for his family.
So we offered to help him get back to school by helping him build his house (which is only 300sq/ft.) He is aware that his education is crucial and we want to support that endeavor while helping him and his family to a better life.
With myself and a couple of friends donating the labour we can get a good concrete foundation and rebar ready for the concrete walls and roof support for $900.
(Typical Ngobe homes have dirt floors and a concrete floor can reduce the risk of disease by approx 80%)
If you would like to help we are collecting donations of $50 per person to raise the funds to complete this first stage of the project.
Your help would be so much appreciated and we can help get some momentum in the project and hopefully see Roger back in school as soon as possible.
