SAM'S CENTS
The Resolution Revolution
Just like diets, resolutions don't stick. By June, 54% of New Year's resolutions are abandoned. Why do people let go of their resolutions? Because they make grand unachievable goals that they can't possibly live up to, rather than taking small steps to change their lifestyles. We want to choose achievable goals that can impact your life immediately.
Look at the slices of your life: Health, Children, Career, Relationship, Friends, Community and Hobbies and make goals for each slice.
Let's avoid the broad goals like "lose 20 pounds" and focus on manageable ones like "Eat dessert only twice a week." Let's replace "Spend more quality time with the kids" with "Plan a weekly "date" with each child." We want to make lifestyle changes that stick rather than broad goals that leave us destined to fall short. You will know you have picked the right goals because you will feel eager to achieve them and you will easily come up with concrete action steps that will get you there. You will feel ready to go after them when you look at the goals and feel zero sense of dread. You might feel a bit of fear, but mostly excitement about going for the goals and achieving them.
