From the Director, Dr. Anne Fenety

Dr. Anne Fenety stands outside the newly opened CHEB Building with Cardon Rehabilitation & Medical Equipment Ltd.'s Mardig Savadjian.
Years ago in our BSc Physiotherapy program, we created an in-class exercise called “Talking to Decision Makers.” We mocked up conversations where lab demonstrators and professors 'pretended' to be decision makers regarding client care (e.g. MD’s, OTs, insurers, etc.). Research Update

Dr. Kozey from the DOHM laboratory and Dr. Derek Rutherford from the JAR lab had a visit with Member of Parliament, Andy Filmore on Nov 27, 2015.
From students to faculty, the research productively here in the School of Physiotherapy has been well paced over the past few months. We have had four MSc Rehabilitation Research thesis defences, one Physiotherapy student research group submit their work to the Physiotherapy Research Foundation’s Ann Collins Whitmore Competition and a host of Student and Faculty publications and abstract acceptances to scientific conferences. Read more about the latest research at the Dalhousie School of Physiotherapy.

IPHE Update

Opening remarks at Dalhousie's Collaborative Heath Education Building (CHEB) Open House on December 1, 2015.
Collaborative heath education isn’t new to the Faculties of Health Professions and Medicine. To illustrate the on-going collaborative health education, the Schools of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy exhibited on a recent interprofessional health event titled, Collaborative Care Planning Simulation For Individuals Post Stroke at the CHEB’s Open House on December 1, 2015.

Clinical Education

There has been an extensive process by the National Association for Clinical Education in Physiotherapy (NACEP) to develop and test the Canadian Physiotherapy Assessment of Clinical Performance (ACP) to assess PT students in clinical education. NACEP has consulted the Academic Coordinators/Directors of Clinical Education and Academic Chairs/Directors at each PT school across Canada; interviewed experts, clinicians, recent graduates; and surveyed physiotherapists across Canada.
