Merry Xmas From Your Pals at Beats Cartel!
2015 End of Year Wrapup
Another year down... man that one flew. Hoping you had a fun and productive year with a bunch of epic gigs in the mix.
We've had a big one here at Beats Cartel with no downtime all year. Fingers in pies! So much opportunity for live original music around the traps. We mainly spent our year helping to solidify the original music scene on the Sunshine Coast, working with a bunch of venues and events including The Wharf Tavern, Taps Australia, Black Bunny Kitchen, Blackwater Trading Co., Wanderlust Festival, OzFEST, Riverside Bar and Restaurant and Aussie World as well Southern venue Lucky Coq in Melbourne, booking their Blues BBQ Sundays. Our work with the 'Friday Live at the Helm' series has really stepped it up for us, providing us with the opportunity to bring some of the biggest names in Australian music to the Coast. 2015 saw us host gigs with the likes of Kingswood, British India, Art of Sleeping, The Snowdroppers, Gay Paris and many more. Next year doesn't slow down either with Northlane, The Delta Riggs and Sahara Beck all set to assemble on the Coast in January and February. Good times! We were also able to capture a few of these bands in action through our BeatsTV channel with a bunch of up-close-and-personal interviews (360/Bliss'n'Eso/British India/The Snowdroppers).
One of the most exciting aspects of the year was our new involvement in the East Coast Originals series which includes the Originals Music Festival, Peregian Originals and Cooroy Originals. For those not in the know, these events have been running for some time with around 1000 punters coming to free community performances on the Coast each month culminating in a 6000 strong festival each year. More developments to come with this festival and also Big Pineapple Music Festival... stay tuned.
Beats worked with a bunch of bands throughout the year booking tours and doing publicity for the likes of Transvaal Diamond Syndicate (facilitating a $10k crowd-funding gain), The Royal Artillery, Kallidad, Little Big Wolf, The Dawn Chorus, Olivia Ruth, Mace and the Motor, Two Girls Will and more. They all kicked goals in their own ways with a host of Festival appearances, radio play and national touring. We've booked our first 2 New Zealand tours for TDS and Kallidad early next year and are looking to make this an ongoing tour option for interested acts.
We're looking to move more into mini-Festival World over the next year. 2015 saw us continue the awesome Mojo Burning Festival which brought 27 originals Blues Rock Roots acts (including King of the North, Gay Paris, Simon Meli and The Widowbirds, Claude Hay and The Gentle Enemies, Mojo Webb etc) to Brisbane for a solid weekend of entertainment. This really is our flagship event to help solidify the national Blues Rock scene. Mojo Burning drops again on Saturday March 12 in Brisbane. Tickets now on-sale. We also ran the annual Sunshine Coast Beard and Moustache Competition at Taps for the 2nd time as well as the annual Beards, Brews and Blues mini-Fest which included the awesome Chris Russell's Chicken Walk, Lachy Doley, The Hi-Boys and more.
Our A Set Adrift series also ticked along nicely in its first year with a bunch of sold-out shows with guest artists including Benny Walker, Tom Richardson, The Lyrical and more. Had a bunch of fun on this one, ain't many better ways to spend a Sunday then in the sun and the sea on a yacht listening to quality tunes! Big love to 4 Pines Brewery for the sponsorship.
Beats is looking to get more into filmclip and website creation in the future. Here's a couple examples of what we achieved this year:
