The next enrolment weekend for World Heritage Youth Ambassadors will soon be here
We are looking for pro-active young people to help us run the Blaenavon World Heritage Site and make a real difference to how Blaenavon World Heritage Site is managed!
No experience is required, just a positive can-do attitude, and a willingness to be an active part of the community. You will receive all the training that you need!
The next enrolment weekend is taking place:
January 23rd – 24th 2016
9.30am – 4.30pm each day
You must be 13-18, be able to make the whole weekend, and be able to commit to approximately 2 days a month.

Find out about the type of work that goes on in keeping Big Pit open as one the UK’s leading tourist attractions and also a chance to ask our Conservation Engineer about how we conserve machinery today for display at Big Pit.
The tour and demonstration last approx. 20 minutes each.
The Velothon Wales returns to south Wales on Sunday 22 May, 2016
It is expected that the route will be the similar to the 2015 event which passed through Blaenavon and saw many residents out on the street supporting the riders. Full details will be released in early 2016.

Blaenavon Digital Cinema Installation
Almost £100,000 public sector funding has been secured (from Arts Council of Wales and Welsh Government Town Centre Partnership Funding) to bring the previously outdated 85 seater cinema back into use. Funds have been used to improve the cinema environment (including lighting, air handling, seating, disability access, and decor) as well as the purchase and installation of a state of the art digital cinema projector with surround sound and hearing enhancement. The cinema will be used to help re-engage local people with Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall and enhance community engagement in a variety of social programmes. A weekly programme of films will be screened showing current big screen releases as well as some of the old greats and in the future, live streamed national theatre productions. The cinema is due to be relaunched early in 2016

With extended opening hours of 10am–5pm, Tuesday to Saturday, and self-service access to quick choice and local history books on Sundays, it’s never been easier to take advantage of everything the library has to offer!
There is something for everyone, whether you want somewhere to read the newspapers or just pop in to surf the net. Contact the library on 01495 742333 for details of regular events including story and rhyme times for children, book groups, computer taster sessions for beginners and help with your family tree. Libraries are free to join and you’ll find a great selection of books to borrow and computers to use. Why not check it out and treat yourself to a coffee in the cafe after choosing your books? You can also enjoy learning about your community’s heritage, and access other council services at the customer care centre during your visit.
