Christmas Greetings from Candidates for Bishop of Northern Indiana

Christmas
by Jan Riley

A shining star, an empty barn
A weary maiden fair.
This sets the scene for a story told
Of love beyone compare.

We've heard it told each Christmastime
How Mary bore the Son.
She heard God's word and followed it.
The true and faithful one.

But, in that manger, also stood
another human life.
A man who trusted and believed,
Who loved his God and wife.

He trusted both and stood by them
When others might have run
Into this family of love,
Our Father gave His Son.

A gentle mom, an honest dad
To form the Child King.
And, so the world all would know,
He let the angels sing!

This gentle babe, so loved by God
was sent to save us all.
God gave His Son, His only Son,
to save us from the fall.

So, at this holy time of year,
let's all return that love.
Let's honor, praise and glorify
our Father up above.

Our precious Lord, we thank you
for sending us your Son.
The savior of our sinful souls,
The one and only one!
