CEDA NEWS DECEMBER/JANUARY - Members and associates edition

Dear <<First Name>>

From everyone at Warburton Valley CEDA, I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very happy festive season and an abundant New Year. We look forward to the achievements and challenges 2016 will bring! Shop local, celebrate local and help showcase our Valley over the summer as we host the thousands of visitors that make their way along the Warburton Highway.
Welcome to our new committee members Alison Fitzgerald (YREC) and Tony Smith (Baroona B&B). All other office holders were returned to their positions. Thank you for your continued support.
At our AGM a new statement of purpose re Friends of the Lilydale Rail Trail was adopted by CEDA - To advocate to any appropriate authority and facilitate community involvement in the continued development, maintenance and use of the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail.  This brings the Friends of Lilydale Rail Trail Group into the CEDA structure , an ideal situation for both parties given the importance of the Rail Trial to our towns and activities.
Take care over the festive season.

Kind regards,
Peta Godenzi

AGM and Dinner - a great night out
Thank you to everyone who came along to our delicious AGM and networking night at Bulong Estate. It was wonderful to meet new members and share a meal with old friends. The formal proceedings went well and we are ready to embark on 2016 with a solid direction and committee at the helm. Much has been achieved and 'Nature based tourism', including cycling, is a key priority for our collective future prosperity.
We've made some big steps forward with events, with our new website and in being a voice for the Valley on a number of issues and opportunities. Thank you to our guest speaker Mark Lucas from Yarra Ranges Tourism and to the other CEDA members who took the opportunity to speak to the group.

Nature based tourism - Cycling updates
Great news that Yarra Ranges Council have allocated $300,000 in funds to the Mountain Bike hub plans in order to make the project 'shovel ready' and secure future government funding. Read more
Both Giro Della Donna and Vertical K were outstanding successes on the day and the Warburton Valley community can be proud of our people, traders and landscape for the support we gave in staging these massive events. Volunteers from our community who marshalled on the days (Thank you Redwood Community Centre, WAL, CFA and SES) earned several thousand dollars for their organisations, which really benefits our local initiatives.
Positive stories have been plentiful in the media with the beauty of our forests and the challenge of our topography a highlight for many cyclists and runners. Read a recap of
Vertical K here and Giro Della Donna here. Here's a thank you posted online:
"I’d like to thank everyone that came out and was part of our first ever Giro della Donna. It would never have gotten off the ground without the support of the town of Warburton (and the local trader’s association, CEDA), the Yarra Ranges Shire Council, Yarra Ranges Tourism and our generous sponsors: Shimano, Specialized, Skratch Labs/Bonk Breaker, Castelli, BBB, Movember, Jaguar and The Sufferfest." (Wade Wallace 23.11.15)
Check out the highlight video from Vertical K below. Who and what do you recognise?
And, of course, what we can't measure precisely, but we know is a huge benefit for Warburton Valley,  is not just what is delivered on the day but perhaps more importantly seen in the return visits to the area by participants and spectators who have been captivated by our tourism charms, or want to return again and again to train or seek revenge on the mount!

Refreshed  VISITWARBURTON.com.au
Our website  www.visitwarburton.com.au has just this week undergone a significant upgrade and is now in the new format adopted by Visit Yarra Valley and Visit Dandenong Ranges. We are sure you will agree the cleaner format is much easier to navigate and really brings to life the wonders of our region. Please take this opportunity to check your listing and if you have any amendments or suggestions email lindy@warburtons.own.net.au to advise. This new look site is just stage one of a significant online upgrade with further enhancements already in production.
New Waterwheel signage now installed
Have you noticed the new signage on the Waterwheel building in Warburton? Thanks to Brad Charman from Yarra Valley Signs for his great design and installation work. The corten steel panels and colour scheme truly enhance the exterior of the building yet remain sympathetic to the surrounds. We love it!
BEST DRESSED WINDOWS - Competition Winners Announced
Congratulations to this years winners of the 'Best dressed Christmas Windows' competition - the Old Tea Shop in Warburton and Benwerren Opp Shop in Yarra Junction. Main street traders in both towns did a wonderful job this year bringing a festive  theme to their windows. Above is the advertisement appearing in the 15/12/15 issue of Upper Yarra Mail - part of the prize for traders.
Our purpose statement:  'To promote sustainable economic development that enriches the lives of those who live in or have a close connection to the Warburton Valley and rely on its prosperity.'
