New web site for a new year

The Great Website Debacle of 2015 almost did me in.

I am not a web designer. I have a decent eye for layout and taught myself to use the software. Well, the hosting company made big changes; to serve me better, they said. And I couldn't update the site!

This was ridiculous!  So I researched carefully, took a deep breath, and changed hosts. And cried, fighting to make everything work.

But, finally, the website works! I am no longer weeping in despair!

You can still access it at www.GlobalMidwives.org.  I'll wait here while you look!

More info for you

On the new site, we can show you more pictures. We plan to set up a blog for updates from Sierra Leone. We can even open a small storefront so you can buy cool stuff.

This site is also cheaper than the old one. (We are always thinking about how to handle your donations wisely!)

Tell me what you want to see, and I'll figure out how how to do it (with few tears, I hope!).
Notice the sun in our logo?
The new website now reflects it!

Five times the reach for 1/3 the cost??

A functioning site is especially important right now, as we meet a huge milestone. We always planned to work ourselves out of a job in Sierra Leone. So training trainers is something we aimed to do -- and 2016 is the year!

Not having a website is a problem, and having our program in Sierra Leone be dependent on foreign teachers is a problem.
Now the time is right to take the next step towards building independence. Government officials want us to expand. Our learners proved they can do what we taught. Our reputation is shiny.

And the need is even greater. The maternal mortality rate, which was going down, rose astronomically in 2015. Thousands of teens are pregnant, as they exchange sex for food in the aftermath of Ebola.  Women are terrified to go to the clinics.  Hundreds of health care workers have died.  Can you imagine?

MOMS teaches family planning and safe delivery practices. MOMS health workers bridge the huge gap between the clinics and the women.

We will train 10 trainers, starting in March.  The cost for each new trainer is about $1,200. With that small investment, they will reach five times more people for less than 1/3 the cost. They will earn a small salary and have more career opportunities. Where else do you see a payoff like that?

We are really excited about this. Can you see the possibilities for such good?

As the end of the year approaches (fast!), consider how you can support this work. Save a life. Train a woman.  It makes the world a better place.

As always, we are grateful. The women are
indescribably grateful.  They say you have changed their lives, helping them save lives.

If you have questions, please ask.  Please tell you friends about us.

Thanks,

Trish and Chris
