APPLICATIONS CLOSE 31ST JANUARY 2016
NGIWA Office Christmas Closure

All The Best To NGIWA Members From Esther Ngang
"My last day at NGIWA has arrived and I thank Board members, staff, members & staff, interstate colleagues and industry colleagues for all the support given to me in my role during my time at NGIWA. It has been an honour and a pleasure to work with many knowledgeable industry members to help make a difference for the nursery and garden industry. The roller coaster-like ride and journey was shared with many. We will treasure and recount the funny, exciting, good and bad moments when we meet again in the future.

Best of luck with
support of Garden ReLEAF (March), and the Perth Garden Festival (PGF Apr 28-May 1). Here is to wishing you every success during and after the event. It is the only event in Perth that brings the whole of amenity horticulture industry together, and exhibitors represent many groups and work together to present passion, products/plants/trees, skills and knowledge to the public. Visitors are thirsty for ideas and options for their work, retail, restaurant/bars, and living spaces - indoors and outdoors. Feel free to contact me at Landscaping Industries Association of WA Inc (LIAWA) if I can be of assistance to your business in helping you make connections.

PGF even
has potential for more growth with positive support, and NGIWA is in stable financial health to progress exciting projects despite lack of HIAL funding moving forwards. Your membership support and maintenance of Accreditation programs for production nurseries and media is important to maintain professionalism. Your participation via events/workshops, and major events are important connections. Membership growth and assistance/commitment to the various projects require a bigger base of membership in a new phase as HIAL isn't favouring peak industry bodies in funding. Keep in touch with your industry association that advocates for your business, please.

Look out for the SEEK ad for new CEO with applications closing Jan 31. Do keep in contact with my successor, NGIWA team, and NGIWA Board and offer as much support as you can. Board members volunteer valuable time to discuss and organise projects to assist with advocacy work to grow your business, and increase recognition of nursery, garden and landscaping industries. You represent a VERY important industry in the phase of mitigating heat island effect, and belong to a collective group with the knowledge to assist urban and regional planners with overcoming challenges of design, supply and install of living green to areas identified as biodiversity hotspots."

NGIA National Conference - February 15-17 (Adelaide)

"I know you are thinking “I’ll get on to that after the festive season”, but the NGIA National Conference is already less than ten weeks away and ‘early bird’ registrations close on January 15.

If you have been to conferences before, remember the great times and value in catching up with others in the industry, touring nurseries, hearing inspiring and informative speakers and taking home a new idea or more for your business? If you haven’t been to a national conference before, all of the above happens!

For the Adelaide
Conference there will be the added entertainment of a special ‘Fringe’ welcoming dinner – a casual and fun affair where a variety of entertainers will get the Conference off to a great start.

There will be two days with 27 speakers covering broader and specific issues of interest to every member, pre-conference tours and workshops, a sold out expo and all culminating in the Gala Dinner on Wednesday, February 17th.

Importantly, once you have registered don’t forget to book your flights over to Adelaide as well – it will be a busy time for Adelaide with the Adelaide Fringe, the largest annual arts festival in the southern hemisphere. Plus, stay an extra few days to enjoy some of great comedy, music, dance or theatre!

I look forward to welcoming you to Adelaide."

Garden Releaf 2016
Garden RELEAF is designed to raise money and awareness for beyondblue and will be held on 9-10 April 2016.

In 2015 more than 100 garden centres and suppliers throughout Australia took part in the event, raising about $65,000 for
beyondblueCentres, including NGIWA members,  Guildford Town Garden Centre and Zanthorrea Nursery, held a range of fun activities, designed to get people into the garden and planting.

The positive feedback has encouraged garden centres to again sign up for the weekend event, with its apt theme of “Something Blue”. A range of blue plants will be for sale in store and staff are encouraged to wear blue clothes, hats and wigs.

Leigh Siebler, Manager of Garden Centres Association of Australia, encourages everyone to support the weekend event. “It is an industry promotion aimed at lifting the profile of independent garden centres in the community and promoting plants and gardens. Participants will be holding a weekend of events, parties and fun for their customers. We are highlighting the many health and wellbeing benefits of plants and
gardens and in fact, promoting the nursery and garden industry. As well as that we are raising funds for beyondblue."
202020 Vision News:
Horticulture Innovation Australia Limited held the WA Urban Forestry Masterclass recently. The 202020 Vision PR team secured plenty of media which was great. One piece they secured was a Channel 9 News spot with Professor Steffen Lehmann who is a 202020 Vision advocate. The Professor is a great advocate who loves the 202020 and does a great job of spruiking our cause.
