The Our state of mind campaign has taken off, and with it, the candidates' meetings around the country.
We'd like to invite you to the candidates' debate in Dublin on Wednesday 13th January, 6.30-8.30 pm in Wood Quay Venue, Dublin 2. As part of the First Fortnight festival, we've invited representatives from all political parties to take part in a public debate on mental health, chaired by broadcaster and historian John Bowman. Entry is free but capacity is limited, so you can book a place by emailing info@mentalhealthreform.ie.
In other meetings around the country...
At a very full meeting on 30th November, candidates in Cork city told voters what they would do for mental health, if elected. Fianna Fáil's Deputy Micheál Martin talked about increasing mental health funding so that it reaches 10% of the overall health budget.
In Castlebar on 14th December, candidates heard from voters about the importance of peer support and people with mental health difficulties being involved in their own care. Fine Gael's Deputy Michelle Mulherin spoke about the need to extend the Counselling in Primary Care Service beyond only medical card holders.
You can continue to support the Our state of mind campaign by sharing the campaign on your social media using the hashtag #Ourstateofmind and the link https://www.mentalhealthreform.ie/our-state-of-mind/
In other news. the HSE published its National Service Plan this week, setting out its plans for 2016. We've produced a Snapshot Analysis of the key points, relevant to mental health.
Finally, from the whole team in Mental Health Reform, we'd like to thank you for your support during the year and wish you a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year!
