Chairman PhotoFrom the Chairman…

Well it has been a busy few months since the AGM and lots of things have either been going on or are in planning. This is the first of a proposed regular series of Chairman's updates and I have plenty of news and other initiatives to share with members.

In this edition I will cover the following topics: Click on any of these topics to move to those sections (not supported by some platforms).

First Impressions

So what have I learned in the first few months:-
  • There is lots of admin and planning needed in running a club
  • Adrian's wife makes great cakes for the committee meetings
  • We could write a book on the mower topic
  • I need to obtain a learning degree in drainage and car park management
Seriously, I would like to thank all the committee and Adrian especially for their support and work during this time.
I am very excited about the future for Lintman Archery Club and know we can together with our members continue to evolve this club into something even more special.

New Award - Lintman Archery Club man / woman of the year

The award is introduced to recognise the Lintman Archery Club member who has put the most outstanding efforts and dedication in to the club during the course of a membership year.
Such efforts could include but are not limited to helping on courses, ground and equipment maintenance, introducing and helping new beginners, helping out at club events or social functions, promoting the club and showing all year round dedication to shooting and club activities
This award is open to all members excepting the committee and we will take nominations up to one month prior to the AGM.

Indoor Christmas Fun Shoot

This Tuesday - 22 December - we will be holding a Christmas fun shoot at the Lord Roberts Centre, Bisley from 18:00-21:00. We will be shooting at Christmas themed targets, with mini spot prizes. Open to all Club members just bring along some party nibbles to share to make the evening complete. The usual indoor fee (£5 per session) applies (except for season pass holders) but it should be a lot of fun.

Club Social  - Three Mariners, Bagshot Saturday 30th  January

Banish those January blues and come along to an informal evening with your fellow club members.
We have reserved an exclusive room in the Three Mariners in Bagshot where a subsidised buffet will be served. A cash bar will also be available.
All members and family are welcome and at £10 per head I think it is great value for money. Please email Adrian and let him know if you are able to join us.

Marc to US

Nearly all of you will know Marc Jay from his work in running the beginners courses or his regular coaching involvement on Sunday mornings.
Marc has taken up an exciting career opportunity in Washington DC and has therefore stepped down from the committee and running the coaching team.
We would like to thank Marc for his dedication and commitment to our club and wish him well in his new venture.

Coaches needed

Have you ever thought about taking your archery a stage further and learning to coach others?
The Club supports all of our Coaches and provides course fee funding, membership of Archery GB and encourages and supports involvement in regular coach updates with Coaches across the region.
Coaching for the Club involves supporting the delivery of our Beginners Courses and our rota of Sunday morning coaching support.
If you are interested please speak to one of the coaches or Adrian and we can provide you with more details and information on what is involved in achieving your Level 1 coaching certification.
I am considering this myself as I do quite a lot of informal coaching and it would be nice to learn more and get a qualification.

Indoor shooting season

I am a convert to this form of shooting this season. It is very different from outdoor shooting but fun and challenging at the same time. I would urge anyone that has thought about giving it a try to come and join us at Bisley on Tuesday evenings 18:00 - 21:00. You can turn up during the evening and slot right into the shooting, no pressure to be there at 6pm sharp.
We share the range with Farnham Archers and they are a friendly and accommodating bunch. More details on Indoor shooting is available on the Lintman website.

Successful maintenance day

Although some were stung by wasps , others disappeared down muddy pipes and ruined their clothing and a number had to valet their cars that were filled with target rubber off cuts, we overall had a very successful morning with a huge amount achieved. A big thank you to the record numbers who turned out to help.
The work completed puts us a in a good position for the season ahead. there will be a follow up day in the spring.

Agincourt shoot.

We had a very good turnout for the Agincourt anniversary shoot. There was some great fun on the day and some particularly accurate shooting by a number people.
I think we can say that King Henry V won the day and we were able to subdue the attacking hordes.
Many thanks to John Baker for all the time and effort he put into organizing this event,

Outdoor shooting schedule 2016

The outdoor shooting programme for next year is now posted in the Shooting Diary on the Lintman web site.
Most events occur on the 1st Sunday of each month and consist of a variety of different types of rounds.
Following the success of the Agincourt shoot we have worked in a couple of fun type shoots into the overall programme.
We are always open to new ideas so if you would like to see something included let me know.

The Car Park annual MUD problems

I know this is a reoccurring frustration at this time of year.
We are working on a hopefully more permanent solution and will advise on what can be done as soon as we can conclude arrangements. Please be patient as we have to deal with our landlord and other external parties but we hope to have more news early in the New Year.

So to conclude this rather lengthy missive – I would like to wish all members and family a very merry Christmas and happy new year
