Chairman of governors retires

The chairman of the governing body at Hereward Primary School, Raymond Warner, has retired after 20 years of dedicated service at the Loughton school.

Throughout his time on the school's governing body, Mr Warner has been part and parcel of many changes at the school, including the extensive expansion undertaken in 2013.

As a result, the new classroom base at the front of the school was named the 'Warner Wing' in his honour.

Mr Warner received the British Empire Medal in last year's Queen's Birthday Honours in recognition of his sterling community service to Hereward Primary School and to the community in Loughton and Epping Forest.

Headteacher Matt Woolard said: "Mr Warner has been a passionate supporter of our school for two decades. He has provided invaluable leadership to our governing body and his contribution has been immense. We wish him well in his retirement."

Mr Warner said: "It has been an immense honour and privilege to be part of the Hereward family for more than 20 years. Playing a part in the dedicated pursuit of excellence by all the staff at the school has been extremely rewarding.

"Two consecutive 'Outstanding' gradings by Ofsted show how much has been achieved. Equally rewarding has been to see so many pupils over the years reach their maximum potential as demonstrated by their results which have been consistently above national standards.

"Over the years I have made so many friends amongst staff and governors to whom I am most grateful for all their help and support.

"I shall miss Hereward but feel fortunate that I  have so many happy memories which will stay with me always.

"I plan to stay in touch with Hereward and will watch with interest as the staff build further on their already impressive achievements."
