In today’s gospel reading (Luke 1:46-56) we hear proclaimed the Magnificat, the prayer of praise arising from the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Visitation. Through the sentiments manifested in this prayer, we glimpse the beautiful and tender attitude of the Virgin Mary. Her stance is always one of humility before the Almighty God. She who had just been given the singular grace of becoming the Mother of Jesus, proclaims God’s greatness and not her own. The Blessed Virgin is filled with tremendous joy that God our Loving Father remembered His promise of mercy. This promise of mercy is Love Incarnate, Jesus Christ.

When St. Dominic was walking from town to town on his preaching missions, he would often be heard singing the praises of God. He opened his soul to be a place where Mary’s Magnificat could be re-echoed, and the praise of the merciful God would resound.

As we go throughout the ordinariness of our daily life, let us ask Mary to assist us in making her tender attitude our own. So that in all of the events of life, we will recognize and praise the greatness of God’s loving mercy.

St. Dominic, singularly devoted to our Blessed Lady, Pray for us!
