Congratulations Scholars and Happy Holidays!
BMKF Education Committee and Nepal Board
Team up to Select Seven New Scholars

We are delighted to announce the Bo M. Karlsson Foundation 2015-2016 BMKF scholarship recipients! Thanks to your incredible support, this year we are awarding 14 scholarships -- seven scholarships for continuing BMKF scholars and seven for new students.

We had strong candidates this year, so it was difficult to choose. Fortunately, we had help!

In October, BMKF’s Nepal coordinator Sabita Ghising fielded queries from candidates, while balancing her own MBA graduate studies. Nepal board director Bimala Manandhar helped collect and organize applications. In November, BMKF education committee members Amanda Wager, Erin Inclán, Christine Herbert and Ann Salminen reviewed applications and went through the heart-wrenching process of narrowing down the list. In December, the Nepal board of directors went to work.

“On Saturday, December 12, our team -- board directors Om Prakash Singh, Bimala Manadhar and I -- interviewed the shortlisted scholarship candidates at Nepal Mandala Travels,” Sabita reported. “This is the first time the Nepal board conducted interviews and it was so nice to meet the candidates and hear their stories.”

Law Degree and Sherpa Teacher Scholarships
Funded By Donors

BMKF is awarding several unique scholarships this year, including a Sherpa Teacher scholarship and two law degree scholarships funded by two BMKF donors.

Board director Om Prakesh Singh, an attorney, asked five law degree candidates questions related to the field, including their thoughts about the current situation in Terai, a politically volatile region of Nepal. The law degree scholarship winners will be announced later in December.

“All of the law candidates had good academic marks and spoke with confidence about their career choice. However, they are still waiting to learn the results of their law school entrance exams,” Sabita explained.

Education Committee Sponsors
Non-Traditional Student

BMKF’s education committee was so impressed with the caliber of candidates this year, they wanted to do more. They decided to personally sponsor an additional scholarship this year for Prabha Bohara.

“Prabha is a unique case. As a 32-year-old woman, she is what U.S. colleges refer to as a ‘nontraditional’ student -- older than the average undergrad,” said BMKF education committee chair Erin Inclán. “She survived an extremely difficult arranged marriage and she has worked hard for her education. In the future she would like to teach other nurses.”

We look forward to sharing more news and introducing the new BMKF scholars in 2016. Thank you so much for supporting these wonderful young women!

Happy holidays and best wishes for the New Year!
