EBOLA PREVENTION: VARIANT FOR LIBERIA

SAWBO, in collaboration with the Liberia Translation and Literacy Organization (LIBTRALO),is proud to present our newest animation, Ebola Prevention: Variant for Liberia, available in 16 languages from Liberia. This animation teaches viewers about the symptoms of Ebola, how it spreads, and how we can help stop it from spreading.

HOW IT HAPPENED

At the end of 2014, SAWBO released its Ebola Prevention animation for Sierra Leone. This original animation was created in collaboration with faculty, students and staff from Njala University, the Sierra Leone YMCA and global experts on ebola education. The original animation was funded by the University YMCA of Champaign, Illinois, and was released back to partner groups in Sierra Leone in the fall of 2014. This animation has been used in Sierra Leone in educational programs involving over 15,000 people.

One of our main goals is to get the animation into as many relevant languages as possible. A recent pair of generous private donations allowed SAWBO to translate these animations into all the major languages for Liberia. The Liberia Translation and Literacy Organization (LIBTRALO) translated the material into the 16 most used languages in Liberia. LIBTRALO then put SAWBO in contact with the Ministry of Health in Liberia. The Ministry of Health worked with SAWBO to modify the Ebola Prevention animation to help it align with their protocols on Ebola. The animation also includes the phone number for the Ministry of Health’s Ebola response department. SAWBO is now proud to present these sixteen new animations in our video library.

THANK YOU TO OUR COLLABORATORS

We would like to thank LIBTRALO and the Ministry of Health in Liberia for the hard work they put into this project. Also, thank you to our main contact during this project, David K. Setiyee and D. Cynthia Barpoe from LIBTRALO. They put in an extraordinary amount of work to make this happen.

Thank you to the University YMCA for their generous donation for the creation of the original animation. Also thank you to the recent private donors who helped make these Liberian language translations possible. Such private donation support allows SAWBO to create content useful in other areas of the world and allows university students to gain experience working with global partners while they are studying at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
