Forming a Relationship with your Local Area Coordinator (LAC)
What's a LAC?
A LAC uses local knowledge to help people with disabilities advocate, plan, organise and access the services they need to live a great life. You can quickly find your LAC, by typing in your postcode here.
When should you get in touch with them?
Whenever you'd like to access Disability Services Commission supports and services, making contact with your LAC is a great first step.
What can you get out of a relationship with your LAC?
A LAC can help you plan for changing circumstances, advocate on your behalf and help you to get involved in your community. For more information, check out the webpage here.

Independence Expo
Coming up in April 2016, Spinal Cord Injuries Australia will host their premier Independence Expo, showcasing an extensive range of lifestyle and disability products and services, designed to empower people with physical disabilities and help them to lead independent lives.
Set to take place in Sydney, April 15th - 16th, there will be some funding opportunities to help people attend. So to find out more information head to the website here, or their Facebook page here.

The Ride
Winner of the Best Full-Length Documentary at the 7th International Disability Film Festival, The Ride lets you travel along on the remarkable journey of four men, seeking to make it 5000km across the Australian outback. The catch - they're all spinal cord injury sufferers.

Spinal WA Surf Comp
Finally, we leave you with some wonderful photos from the Spinal WA surf comp this year, organised by the brilliant Dee Donachie - clinical nurse at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
The message 'a quick check could save your neck' was relayed many times throughout the morning to raise awareness of the spinal injuries that can occur in the water.
It was a wonderful morning and certainly a highlight of 2015!
