The Lancet Oncology Commission: The expanding role of primary care in cancer control

Congratulations to PC4 Director Prof Jon Emery and Prof Geoff Mitchell, Leader of the PC4 Scientific Working Group in Palliative Care, on their contribution to The Lancet Oncology Commission.  Jon was the lead author of Part 4:  Early diagnosis in adults and Geoff the lead author on Part 6:  Palliative care in advanced cancer.  They were part of a team of authors invited to explore the scope for new models of cancer care ranging from primary prevention to end-of-life care, and consider the actions needed to effect change.  The team concluded that cancer and its consequences will be an increasingly prominent part of the primary care workload, and will need to be underpinned by new research and by continuing and shared multi-professional development.

You can read the Lancet Oncology Commission report here, Prof Emery’s piece in the MJA Insight here, and Prof Mitchell’s piece in the MJA Insight here.
