Almost 600 nominations!

We've been completely overwhelmed by the enthusiasm for Great School Libraries.

We've had almost 600 nominations for for this campaign and there's no shortage of pride, praise and student admiration for their school libraries.

And school libraries inspire kids to create - take a look at these wonderful manga-inspired drawings!

This campaign sought
libraries that help children and young people find reliable information; use the information effectively; think critically; make informed decisions; work productively with others; build knowledge and understanding of the world; safely navigate the internet; communicate and share their ideas; and find great reads to meet personal interests and abilities.

What happens next?

Stay tuned until the first term next year when we will make an announcement and list the Great School Libraries.

Just nominating your school library put it in the running to be named in the list as one of Australia's great school libraries.

There's no first prize - the achievements of every school library that is nominated and endorsed by our panel of school library experts will be celebrated equally.

Our panel of school library experts will be busy reviewing the nominations over the next couple of months.

When the list is compiled we will be congratulating the Great School Libraries by publishing a list in Australian Teacher Magazine - March edition, writing to principals, Sate and Territory Education Ministers and their Departments.

Wonderful support from Jackie French

Best-selling author of more than 170 children's books, Jackie French, is this year's Children's Laureate and she is a great supporter of our campaign.

Why did we run this campaign?

We campaign for qualified library staff in schools. In some schools, students have a head start thanks to the principal's willingness to invest in a well staffed, well funded school library. In others, while parents may not realise it, their children are disadvantaged because of the lack of qualified staff and/or insufficient funds to provide adequate services.

FAIR (Freedom of Access to Information and Resources) has joined with The Australian Library and Information AssociationALIA SchoolsAustralian School Library AssociationQueensland School Library AssociationSchool Library Association of NSWSchool Library Association of South AustraliaSchool Library Association of VictoriaWestern Australian School Library Association and EducationHQ to seek out these inspirational places of learning and discovery.
