2016: A POSITIVE OUTLOOK

From TBDA and personally from me, I’d like to make a big New Year’s wish for you: I wish you happiness, good health, success in business (whatever that really means), satisfying, meaningful activity, close bonds with friends and family, and appreciation of life and nature.
Dwelling on this, I realized that if you get even a piece of that uber-wish, the world is a better place not just for you, but for a lot of other people. So wishing you a good 2016 is kind of wishing it’s good for all of us…and I can wholeheartedly get behind that! Yes, we can all wish the world is a better place, and I would argue working towards that wish brings a sense of contentment and meaning to our days.

As architects, we’re excited by what 2016 brings. With the Paris Agreement in place, the work of Architecture 2030 continuing to pick up steam, New York’s 80% carbon reduction goal by 2050, Chicago’s energy benchmarking ordinance, and increasing appreciation for the role of nature in our lives, great change is underway. Here’s what we’re doing at TBDA to help the cause:
  • Continuing to lead the way in designing beautiful, efficient buildings for individuals and communities, and sharing that via our blog;
  • Continuing to raise awareness of Passive House, Living Building Challenge, and other ways of making a healthier, more resilient, and more efficient building stock;
  • Donating to the Nature Conservancy: their work is inspiring; one great example of their work helping reintroduce bison to the Nachusa Grasslands in Illinois;
  • Learning more about the interaction of the built and natural environment on health, which findings we will share via our blog;
  • Making and supporting the making of art…we need beauty!
All the best from TBDA,
Tom Bassett-Dilley
