Welcome to the FIRST City Manager Newsletter!

Happy New Year from the City Manager!
And its not just any new year; its the City of Stanton's 60th Anniversary. The 60th is all about celebrating both a rich past and a promising future, and I'm excited to share those future developments through our new email newsletter detailing up-to-date information on the City of Stanton!  We recognize that transparency is a major concern for our residents, and we hope to use this letter to open up our doors, and invite you in to see what the City is doing for you.  I look forward to sending out these updates, and I hope you will enjoy being a part of this historic celebration.

-James A. Box, City Manager

Measure GG Funds Improving Public Safety

With the new voter-approved funds from Measure GG, the City has been able to offer more in public safety and protection.  We've added a new Community Enhancement Deputy to address issues facing the city, a Motor Deputy to enforce traffic laws, a Code Enforcement Officer who works throughout the weekend to assist in catching violations and allowing deputies more time to focus on neighborhood patrols, and we've enhanced our economic development programs to attract new businesses and fix blighted areas.

Stanton Central Park

Construction is right on schedule for the new Stanton Central Park, located right on Western Avenue!  Features are already taking shape, such as a brand new skate park, a community center building and a stage for bands and concerts.  Construction is estimated to be complete by June 2016.  The project is funded by Redevelopment Act bonds, the Prop 84 Grant, and Park in Lieu and will not have any impact on the General Fund.

If you would like a tour of the park, please contact our Public Works Director Allan Rigg at (714) 890-4203.

Business Appreciation Month

The City of Stanton and its residents are proud of many of the businesses that have set up shop in our town.  To honor those businesses, the Stanton City Council has declared January as Business Appreciation Month.  Our upcoming Business Appreciation Luncheon will take place on January 28, 2016 at noon and will honor many of the business owners- both old and new- who have made great contributions to the city.  If you are a business owner who would like to attend, please contact Rebecca Pennington at (714) 890-4237

Mayor's Prayer Breakfast

The City of Stanton and Stanton Community Foundation are proud to host the upcoming Mayor's Prayer Breakfast on February 24, 2016.  The event will take place from 7:30 - 9 a.m. at the Knott's Berry Farm Hotel and will feature Chef Bruno Serato from the Anaheim White House, who has made huge efforts in assisting local children with homelessness.  The event will feature breakfast from the Knott's Hotel, and performances from local high school groups.  Tickets are $35, and can be RSVP'd at (714) 890-4274.

El Niño Update

The recent storms and flooding is only the beginning of what is looking to be a very wet El Niño season.  As a reminder, sandbags may be picked up from the Stanton Corporate Yard located at 8100 Pacific Street or the Orange County Fire Authority Station #46 at 7871 Pacific Street.  Please take proper steps to ensure the safety and security of your home and family, including clearing gutters, cutting weak branches, securing valuables and documents, and establishing an emergency plan with family.

Mid Year Budget Process & OpenGov

Every February or March, the Stanton City Council reviews the status of all expenses and revenues for the two-year budget to evaluate the progress of all accounts.  Early estimates show for this year that all activity in the budget is meeting or better than expectations.  The Administrative Services Department looks forward to sharing these findings to the City Council and the public.  If you are interested in reviewing the budget, our new OpenGov platform gives you full access to custom reports and data.

Emergency Management Training

This past week City Staff took part in Active Shooter and Emergency Management training.  In collaboration with staff from Orange County Sheriff's Department and the Department of Homeland Security, city workers engaged in an intensive federal and state-approved training session.  Our number one goal is to keep our residents safe, so you can be assured that your city staff is well-prepared to handle any crisis situation, whether it be earthquakes, floods, or any other disaster.

Beach Boulevard Beautification

Groundbreaking for the much-anticipated Beach Boulevard Beautification Project began last week.  Improvements to Beach Blvd. include brand new monument signs at the main City entrances, street name signs at major intersections, and installation of drought-tolerant landscaping along medians.  These improvements, running from Garden Grove Blvd. to Ball Rd., will create a more pleasant atmosphere for residents and visitors commuting through the City’s main thoroughfare.

The project is scheduled for completion by this spring, and is funded by the Lighting/Median Maintenance Fund and will not have any impact on the General Fund.

Thank you once again for signing up for our new City Manager's Newsletter.  We hope that this information will be useful to you as you continue to be a welcomed member of the Stanton community.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the City Manager's Office at (714) 890-4277.
Construction is underway for Stanton Central Park!  Pictured above is the new community center that will host activities while the park is open.
Community Enhancement Deputies are just a few of the additions to Public Safety thanks to Measure GG.
The Business Appreciation Luncheon is a great opportunity to network with local businesses and be a part of the larger Stanton business community.
Chef Bruno will be the keynote speaker for the 2016 Mayors Prayer Breakfast.  All proceeds will benefit the Stanton Community Foundation.
New plants and monument signage on Beach Boulevard will make it a very beautiful thoroughfare into our city.
