Hari Om!
Hello...hoping you are all well and happy.  This year has got off to a great start and I am so grateful and thankful.  Have met so many new people, January has been a high energy month.  Thank you so much.

What do you think to this picture?  I like it!!!  It was taken by Becki of Red Square Photography  and we spent an hour in Darley Park in Derby....I hate having my photo taken but Becki made it fun.  I won this from last years auction for Nepal.  I can highly recommend Becki and her team....and you can choose what you want...I just wanted natural as possible.

So, what is happening this month:

The next masterclass is February 13th...read more>>

I am hugely excited about this trip as it combines yoga and ayurveda in a beautiful setting.  Places are limited so do let me know if you are interested.  This is the reason the newsletter is late as it literally got finalised yesterday!

Fundraising for Nepal continues...the magic silver tin was counted tonight....in January you have added £95 to it.  Flabbergasted!!!  Thank you.  I am saving up now to help a school called Chandra Jyoti and it is located at a village called Chhetri Gaon in the Nuwacot region.  We will visit it in April.
I have been given a beautifully crocheted blanket and we are going to raffle it...you will see it at classes.  It would be great to run a coffee morning in the Spring and I really would like to do another Holistic Day...let me know if you have any ideas or want to be involved.

Sending you love, joy and peace.

February 13th - 10am to 12.30pm - Introduction to Bandha

'Jalandhara bandha, uddiyana bandha and moola bandha are situated respectively, in the throat, abdomen and perineum.  If their duration can be increased then where is the fear of death?' ~ Yagataravali (Sutra 5; Sri Adi Shankaracharya)

Bandha means to hold or tighten and they affect the pranic energy of the body.  They directly influence the three granthis or psychic knots, which in turn prevent the free flow of energy or prana along sushumna nadi.  See how it is all interconnected!  We will discuss what the bandhas and granthis are but more importantly we will have the time to practice.

My aim is that you will go away being able to really feel the bandhas and have much more appreciation of what they are and why we do them.

This class is only suitable to those that have been practicing yoga for two or more years
.

There is a break for master classes due to other yoga commitments I have with teaching and training.  I am looking at dates for May and June and then September.  Will have more information in the next newsletter.

Yoga & Ayurveda Retreat 2017

I am working with Ann Brooks of Classic Journeys, to bring together a luxury retreat for you, to Northern Kerala, India.
This 9 day hermitage stay is ideal for those that want to dip into the sea and infinity pool; to practice varied yoga and meditation either in the Patanjali Hall or on the beach; to experience 5 ayurveda treatments; be surrounded by unspoilt nature.
To discuss or book your place please contact me.  Full details on the whole trip can be found here.
And if you are wondering why I have chosen this venue, above all others, have a look at Slow Life.

Green Tara

On a lotus seat, standing for realisation of voidness, the emerald-coloured, one-faced, two-armed Lady, In youth's full bloom, right leg out, left drawn in, showing the union of  wisdom and art.

Like the outstretched branch of the heavenly turquoise tree, your supple right hand makes the boon - granting gesture - inviting the wise to a feast of supreme accomplishments.  Your left hand gives us refuge, showing the Three Jewels; it says, "You people who see a hundred dangers, Don't be frightened - I shall swiftly save you!"

Both hands signal with blue utpala flowers, "Samsaric beings! Cling not to worldly pleasures.  Enter the great city of liberation!"
Flower goads, prodding us to effort.

~ First Dalai Lama (1391-1474)

Fundraising for Nepal

Total raised has reached £10890

In January I finally managed to send the last bits of money I had from all our efforts last year.  Much of it went to three different groups distributing quilts and blankets.  Nepal is experiencing a cold hard winter, unlike us.  I also have made contact with the group So The Child May Live and it is through Jennifer Pizer that I have sent money to Binay Lama for a house rebuild in his village of Bhimkhori.  You will find links on the facebook page if you would like to see progress and updates.
I sincerely hope this all meets with your approval.

Fundraising is ongoing  as I have said in my introduction.  The push at the moment is to take school items out with us in April...see below.  If you can help please let me know.

I have been given this beautfiul hand crocheted blanket to raffle, by Anne, and it took her around 80 hours to make and I would gladly keep it! Rough measurements are 220cm by 180cm...looking at it!  I will be bringing it to class over the next couple of weeks.  All the money raised will be taken with me to Nepal in April.

In the Allestree Wednesday afternoon class, another Anne (something in the name I feel!!!)  brought in really unusual iris plants for sale, again adding to the pot.  The pot in January had £95 in it.

Diana's Winter Soup

I absolutely love soup and at this time of year there is nothing more comforting in my humble opinion.  The best thing is you don't need to be too perscriptive.  This one is delicious...use any colourful veg you can.  Recipe here.
Lime & Coconut Cake

Wednesday is cake day in my classes!!  Anne brought this cake last week and it was so delicious.  I haven't had time to make it yet (too busy doing marmalade!!) but here is the recipe Enjoy!

Meadowsweet
This is a little plug for a product I have been using that I have found really helpful for my aching fingers and knee.  It is also good for muscles.  No gurantees though!

Stillness
As many of you know I love my meditation practice.  But sometimes being still can be a challenge.  This  practice will hopefully help you find a few minutes in the day to sit, to be, to listen and to feel. Do make sure you will be undisturbed for 25mins.  Listen here.
Mudras
All through January we worked with Hasta Mudras...hand gestures.  They were very well received and some of you have asked for copies of the sheets.  The one I would love you to work with on a regular basis is for helping with feeling the breath in different areas and the full yogic breath.  So here it is..read more>>
