THE 2016 FIRST SEASON BEGINS

The AdamBots are excited to be beginning the 2016 FIRST season! In this past month, the 2016 FIRST Robotics Competition game was revealed on January 9th to teams all over the world, and the AdamBots had a chance to talk about our strategy at the game review meeting on January 10th. During the first three build weeks, we have been prototyping and selecting designs, beginning CAD and fabrication of our robot, and preparing submissions for Chairman's and Entrepreneurship Awards.

SEASON UPDATE

January 9th was the 2016 FIRST Kickoff date, when teams around the world watched online as the new game, FIRST STRONGHOLD, was revealed. FIRST STRONGHOLD is a medieval tower defender game in which alliances select defenses to fortify their side of the field, and then compete simultaneously to breach the opponent's defenses and capture the opponent's tower. One unique aspect of the game this year is that there are thousands of possible combinations of arranging the five defenses that form the outer wall, which will make preparing for each individual match challenging. View the game animation below and read the brief game description for more information on how FIRST STRONGHOLD is played.

On January 10th, the AdamBots and CyberCats met to discuss our strategy for this year. After this meeting, the design and engineering teams have finalized our strategy, created prototypes of mechanisms for the robot, and digitally designed the robot. The AdamBots business teams have been working on submissions for the Chairman's and Entrepreneurship Awards. Additionally, the business teams are organizing the 2016 Meet the AdamBots and CyberCats Event, which will be held at Adams High School on Febuary 13th from 2 - 4 pm.

More information about the team's accomplishments during each build week is available on our blog and on our YouTube channel.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

The AdamBots are implementing a new design process for this FIRST season. After the game reveal, students split into teams to discuss our strategy for the robot. Then, once our strategy was finalized, the Design Selection team was formed to provide the final input into our robot design. Instead of all the engineering mentors and leaders selecting the design together, each mechanical team presented their prototypes for various mechanisms on the robot to the Design Selection team. The Design Selection team evaluated the presented designs objectively based on their overall contribution to our strategy. This method of selecting our final design was very successful because it allowed our team to finish selecting the design by the end of Week Two of the build season.
