Looking back on 2015

Reflecting on 2015 there are many achievements to celebrate. Regina Cat Rescue (RCR) held more fundraisers than ever. We received more media attention in 2015 than in 2014 and 2013 combined. The number of cats rescued reached an amazing 380 - a decrease of just four per cent from 2014's record high. We worked on new partnerships with local businesses and maintained relationships with many of our existing sponsors.

There were also moments of sadness for the RCR team. Two feeding stations were lost to arson and theft in 2015. Volunteers said goodbye to several feral cats who had been in our care for many years including Louie who passed in January, Tripod who we lost in April, and Dewey who we bid farewell to in October. Some special tame cats also crossed the rainbow bridge including Latte and Teaky. But thanks to outstanding support from the community we were also able to save many other cats including some who required special care. A fundraising campaign was held for Fluffy, Button and Nyssa in February and a plea for funds was shared in October to help Cecil, Blanche and George. Many generous people stepped up to ensure these wonderful cats were able to get the care they needed. It wasn’t just cats RCR helped last year - one rooster managed to find himself in RCR’s care temporarily! It was an unusual case that saw rescuers headed out to help a feline family who had shacked up with a rooster under a deck. Luckily they were all saved and landed their happy-ever-after ending. The politicats also landed a happy ending finding their forever homes and raising awareness and funds for spay and neuter surgeries along the way. What a year!

We want to thank everyone who donated, volunteered, fostered, sponsored or adopted in 2015. There are still countless cats in our community who need help. We hope we can count on your continued support as we care for Regina’s abandoned cats and kittens.

Auditor needed!

Regina Cat Rescue is looking for an auditor to review its 2015 financials at a good rate. As a registered charity and non-profit organization, RCR completes an annual audit of its finances. It's an important part of being accountable to our donors and supporters, but it's also expensive. If you know of an auditor who would be willing to extend a special non-profit rate to RCR, please contact us!

January's Metro Cat

Thanks to Metro Pet Market for Spaying It Forward! This month, Metro is covering Supernova's spay surgery as part of their mission to foster responsible pet guardianship. Supernova was born to a stray cat rescued by a concerned citizen. Knowing the kitten needed more support than she could provide she turned to RCR for help. For more info on Metro Pet Market, check out their website.

Updates from adopters

There are few things RCR volunteers enjoy more than watching our kitties go off to their forever homes. But one thing is just a little sweeter, and that's hearing that the cats are thriving in those forever homes! We wanted to share some of these updates with you so you can experience all the warm fuzzies, too! Click through for updates on Wendell, Richie, Sweetie, Rufus, Zima, Jacy and many more!

New employee grants

Thanks to RCR volunteers Dani Furkert-Aubichon, Betty Sproule and Derek Zurowski for applying for employee grants at their workplace. They each earned $250 for RCR by donating their time! And congrats to Alanna Whippler and Crystal Schack-Watch for each earning a $500 employee volunteer award for RCR as well. Be sure to ask your employer about grants that may be available as a result of your commitment to RCR!

Meet Etheline!

This month's featured cat is Etheline. Though shy when meeting new people, this sweetheart has nothing but love and purrs once she knows you. She enjoys affection - all she wants now is someone to share it with! View Etheline's adoption profile and consider welcoming this loving girl into your home.

Tax receipts. If you donated any in-kind items to RCR in 2015 (for example - cat food, litter, etc.), be sure to submit your receipts and the gift-in-kind form by Jan. 30 to receive a 2015 tax receipt. Please mail receipts & forms to: Regina Cat Rescue, PO Box 33066, Cathedral Postal Outlet, Regina SK, S4T 7X2.

Thank you. Thanks to Janine, Lois and Laurae for helping RCR treat Jessica, a feral cat suffering from a terrible case of ear mites. Half of Jessica's ear was removed, drainage tubes put in and medication administered daily. Not an easy task with a feral cat, so a big thank you to these three ladies for helping out.

Last chance for a calendar. RCR's 2016 calendar will soon be removed from stores and clinics, so if you didn't get one for Christmas, this is your last chance to get your hands on one! Available at ten locations around Regina.

Top animal stories of the year. Woot! The politicats landed in the #2 spot in CBC Sask's list of the top 6 animal stories of 2015.

Forever homes found. A grand total of 35 cats found their forever homes in December.
Photo of the Month! Here's the top nine most popular images from the RCR Instagram account in 2015. Kittens and cupcakes - no surprises here!
