A NEW YEAR NOTEmandala notecards

Well, winter certainly took its sweet time arriving this year! And it was sweet, if not truly bizarre, to be enjoying 60+ degrees in December. But as I write this it has dropped drastically to a balmy 7 degrees and the sun is glaring off the snow left from last week's first storm of the season. It looks lovely but I think I'll stay in by the fire and write to you instead.

As does the weather, I also start my new year with some big changes. I have a newly rearranged work-space which includes a big, cozy chair for more "fun" reading, I am taking more time for art (those are some of my mandala note cards above), and I intend to write more (for me, not the newspaper). But the biggest change is, that after running my weekly Voice Quest workshop for over four years, I have decided to put that particular journey on hold
(temporarily?). I also decided to hold off scheduling other workshops in The Writers' Room for at least the next couple of months while I concentrate on a book project (scheduled for publication in July). I will be still accepting private clients, however.

But meanwhile, thanks to various organizations, I am excited to be able to offer more writing-for-well-being opportunities around the Rutland community:
  • For those in recovery, I am running a weekly group at Turning Point Center
  • For those wanting to make the most of their writing time, I will be facilitating a monthly group at Chaffee Art Center
  • This month I will be at the Rutland Regional Medical Center (RRMC) Health Fair promoting a writing group for employees (details TBD)
  • And in April I will be back at RRMC offering my popular "Lower Your Stress" class
  • Scroll down for details on each of these events.
In other news (literally), I have a new Saturday column in the Rutland Herald called "All Write!" where I will be sharing tidbits on local writers, bookstores, writing groups, as well as the benefits of personal writing. Each week I will include writing prompts to get you going on your own writing. (I will re-post the column on my blog for those who can't access the Herald.) Please let me know if you have stories/people you'd like to see featured in this column.

I am ready to manifest more dreams in 2016 and continue discovering the healing power of words. How about you? Won't you join me?

ON THE BLOG...

Focused vision
Focused longing
Focused action

Before we can do something significant with our lives, we have to do three things: imagine it clearly so we know what we want, be willing to want it very, very much and take action that moves us to attainment … focused vision, focused longing and focused action. -- Christina Baldwin in Life’s Companion: Journal Writing as a Spiritual Quest

In the spirit of the New Year, I offer a slight twist on typical resolution-setting: writing to help you envision your hopes and intentions for the future. There is something magical about dreaming and envisioning what you want out of your life. But it is also as necessary and practical as a map (or GPS) on a long road trip.
