8th January - 4th February 2016

Hello and Happy New Year, we hope you've enjoyed the holidays. We hope by now you'll have seen details of our newest project, The Start of Something, which seeks to bring people together to make things happen. We invite you to propose a conversation about a topic that is relevant and useful to those in your networks; it could be anything from building networks in rural communities, establishing a collective workspace, to sustaining a practice as an older artist. A number of proposed conversations will be selected to be platformed at our Annual Event, which will now take place on Friday 18th March at Attenborough Arts in Leicester. If you don't have a conversation to propose, we hope you'll come to the event to hear our speakers and contribute to the proceedings. Find out more about The Start of Something and how you can get involved, we'd love to hear what concerns you and what you'd like to do about it!

News from the nationals

CVAN,EM is one of 9 such networks operating within England. We're all commitment to strengthening the visual arts in the country, in different ways, and involve a whole host of people and organisations in this endeavour. These 9 networks in turn form a national network, Contemporary Visual Arts Network (CVAN), the ultimate goal of which is to nurture contemporary visual artists and organisations in order to produce internationally regarded, critically engaged work that is valued by our society.

Find out what our co-networks are doing across the country, and about the initiatives that CVAN as a national umbrella network is involved in.

News from Somewhere

Over the next few months over thirty artists associated with Harrington Mill Studios will be making new work for Art-Athina 2016, Athens' International Contemporary Art Fair. The artists will be responding to the theme 'Precious Little' making pieces no bigger than 20 x 20cm

Launched in 1993, Art-Athina is one of the longest established Art Fairs in Europe and the largest annual visual arts event in Greece. It brings together significant Greek and foreign art galleries, cultural institutions, curators, collectors, art critics and art lovers and in 2014 attracted over 35,000 people. Its 'Platforms' strand promotes artists’ groups, collectives, platforms and independent art spaces of a non-commercial (non-profit) orientation operating in unconventional ways, in Greece as well as abroad to establish unexpected debates on art. Good luck everyone!
