Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday and Lee-Jackson Day Holiday Closings
City government offices, including City Hall, the City Hall Annex and the Petersburg Freedom Support Center, will be closed on Friday, January 15 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday and will be closed on Monday, January 18 in observance of Lee-Jackson Day. Offices will reopen at normal business hours on Tuesday, January 19. Click here for the full closing announcement. 
PAT Goes Green
Petersburg Area Transit (PAT) has been awarded $80,000 from the Virginia Department of Mineral, Mines and Energy (DMME) to support the advancement of alternative transportation bi-fuel technology. Under this large-scale initiative, public and private fleet vehicles are converted to propane autogas in order to reduce vehicle emissions and displace gasoline consumption. Centre Hill Mansion Ghost Watch
Petersburg Museums and Visitor Services will present Ghost Watch on Sunday, January 24, 2016, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Centre Hill Mansion located at 1 Centre Hill Avenue. Centre Hill has served as the home of many notable Virginia families--the Bollings, the Davis’ and the Pryor’s. It has also played host to two U.S. presidents, Abraham Lincoln and William Howard Taft. 

Several areas not regularly open to the public (the attic and the service area) will be on the tour of the house. Space is limited and reservations must be made in advance (beginning on January 2) at Centre Hill Mansion. Tickets are $10. (not recommended for children under 12). VCA Application Assistance Workshops
The
 Virginia Commission for the Arts will present a series of statewide application assistance workshops to be held in December 2015 and January 2016.  Workshop locations include: Roanoke, Abingdon, Arlington, Front Royal, Richmond, Portsmouth & Danville.

VCA staff will provide an overview of grant programs, updates to the Guidelines for Funding, application and review procedures, as well as general tips on preparing competitive proposals in preparation for the March 1, 2016, and April 1, 2016, application deadlines. 

Workshops are free and open to the public; pre-registration is not required.  Attendance is not required in order to apply for Commission funding; however, workshops can be helpful for first-time applicants preparing requests for: General Operating Support Grants for Arts Organizations, Project Grants, Local Government Challenge Grants, Artists In Education Grants, Technical Assistance Grants, Touring Assistance for Presenters, Artist Fellowships and applications for inclusion in the Performing Arts Tour Directory and the Artist Roster.

Petersburg Farmers Market
The Petersburg Farmers Market will be open on Saturday, January 9. It is now located at 125 E. Washington Street; a very visible location off of exit 52 in the heart of downtown Petersburg. The market is open from 9:00 a.m. until noon on Saturdays. New vendors are welcome! Interested vendors can call (804)733-2352 to reserve space.

The entire City is invited to participate in the I AM PETERSBURG® logo contest. Through January 31, 2016, users can go to the I AM PETERSBURG® website and create a logo. The top 5 logos will be posted and voted on February 3, 2016 – February 15, 2016.

Their logo will be posted on a designated billboard in the City. Everyone is encouraged to go to the website, create a logo and post on social media channels. Be sure to use #iampetersburg when posting an I AM PETERSBURG® logo on social media.
