A word from our Chair - Kath

Happy New Year
Welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely and relaxing break over the Christmas period and are ready to attack this new term. We have lots to look forward to over the next month, with the county championships and schools gala. Good luck to all those involved, and thank you to all the volunteers and parental assistance that makes these events possible.
On a personal note, many of you will know that I have recently become self-employed and started my own company. Due to the time commitments and overseas travel that this has involved I have needed to take a backwards step from the logistical role as chair within the club. This role has very readily been filled by Deputy Chair, Rachel.
Going forward, we have also decided to form a group of parents who are willing and able, to assist the club on an occasional basis, in the capacity of the ‘friends of 4SSC’. This group of parents will assist with fundraising events, cake-stalls, raffles etc. Hopefully reducing the workload for the committee and enabling the club to continue to remain financially viable. If any parent would be interested in joining this group, please don’t hesitate to contact either myself or Rachel.

Updates from our Head Coach … Kim

Thank you for all the kind wishes on our 40th Wedding Anniversary. There is no truth in the rumour that I set a small fire on the Grand Princess Cruise ship whilst between San Francisco and Hawaii. However it is true that after 15 days on a now slow going luxury cruise ship we received a total refund, half price of our next cruise and $200 each to squander on board.
 Happy Days.
Anyway enough of my woes.

Now that Christmas & New Year are out of the way.
we have the Counties to look forward to and have now received confirmation of accepted entries- well done and good luck to all those competing!

It was great to see swimmers at the Christmas training sessions, it has become clear that the ones who continue to train through the holidays are the ones who progress most quickly. I would encourage all swimmers to attend sessions provided in the breaks if at all possible – let’s see more of you there next time!

The Counties started last weekend with Rebecca Hoadley and Maddie Good (W&DSC and 4SSC) in the 800Fs.
Our first relays were the boys 14 & U on Sun 10th Jan at Bletchley.
The following Sunday 17th  has Rebecca Hoadley,  Eloise Upton and Michael Pearson swimming the 400s and the girls 14 & U girls Relay teams at Aqua Vale, Aylesbury. See Gala report below for more.

We have the Chipping Norton Schools Gala on Wednesday 20th January at the Chippy LC Pool 12.30-3.30pm, thanks to those who have said they can help out.

Congratulations to
Nigel, Clive & Philippa with Sam and Chris close behind
For qualifying as J1 Officials.

Finally a note for parents from all the coaches.

The continued late arrival at sessions by certain swimmers causes a disruption to the warm ups and sets. So if you deliver your swimmer late please understand that the coaches may have to make them wait for an appropriate break in the training program is reached. Please try and get them changed and ready between 5 & 10 minutes prior to the start time.

Galas Update

Club Champions for 2015

At the Christmas Party we made the presentations for the age group winners from our own Club Championships for 2015. This years awards were made on the back of the accumulated FINA points that each swimmer had achieved from both the spring and autumn championships.

So well done to all those swimmers who received medals and trophies. A point to remember for this year, the more events that you swim, the better your chances of getting a medal.

As I write we have just had a fantastic weekend of County swimming with the relays and look forward to the individual races in February. Our normal schedule of galas resumes with City of Oxford Development meets in March, April & May, and many other exciting opportunities to put that hard training into competitive action. You can always check on the forthcoming galas from the website, click here.

We have some Masters events coming up, I'll be dropping a line about those shortly.

Lost Property

Please could  we ask parents to request that all BOYS who swim at Sibford on Fridays and Mondays check their kitbags. Toby and Edward Fernandez have both had red speedo towels (labelled with their names) go missing from the changing rooms, on 8 & 11 January. As these are from Edward's first ever triathlon, they are particularly keen to find them, and are hoping they have been picked up in the usual scrum to get changed! Thank you.

Swimmers of the Month

Catching up on November Swimmer of the Month the Junior Swimmer was Zoe Pearson. Congratulations to Zoe who received her award for her excellent attitude  and hard work. Her technique continues to improve and she is a great example to other young swimmers.

Junior Swimmer of the month for December is Katy Witts. Katie has only been with us for 6 months but has already shown a keenness and ability to move up through the squads and compete. Katie's trophy was presented by Megan Stockford our current girls Team Captain.

Senior Swimmer of the month for December is Jacob Ryan. Jacob has to be praised for the effort he consistently shows in all sessions, he never complains but just gets on with it and it shows with his improved strokes and times.

Please remember to pay your ASA fees by the end of January and to return your signed Codes of Conduct. Thank You!

New Members

We are delighted to welcome the following to our club
Laura Chapel, Oliver Lloyd and Beatrice Williams
We hope you enjoy your swimming and make lots of new friends!

Club Champions and Christmas Party

The Christmas Party was fun for the swimmers with the inflatable dog being as popular as ever! After the wet stuff we all munched our way through a great spread of food kindly provided by generous parents.

Medals were presented to the winning swimmers in each age group based upon performance at the Club Championship events. Congratulations to all of you !

Our overall Club Champions for 2015 were Oscar Raisbeck and  Rececca Hoadley. Well done !

Below is a selection of photos taken at the presentation - apologies for not including all winners - the fault of the photographer (me - Louise) for not getting very good shots !
