President's Message
2016 is leap year adding an additional day in February.  I’m sure you know this happens every four years to keep the calendar in alignment with the Earth’s revolution around the sun.  But, did you know that in the 19th century a woman had the right to propose to a man on February 29th? This was before women’s liberation and equal rights where gender roles were more concrete than today and was considered a very unique and bold thing to do.  So, next month you can propose to the man of your dreams.  But, what if you are already married, don’t want to get married or there is no dream guy in your life.  What will you do with that extra day?  With today’s fast-paced society, days crammed with work and hourly deadlines, let’s use those extra 24-hours wisely.  Consider doing something special for yourself or meaningful for someone else.  Let’s not waste the precious time we have.                                                                                                         Beth
In the Spotlight
Anita Kapoor
CPA, Manager

Our February 2016 spotlight falls on member, Anita Kapoor, a CPA, at McNair, McLemore, Middlebrooks & Co., LLC.
Anita has been with the firm  for 19 years and is currently a Manager.  A typical day for Anita, includes performing audits, preparing information returns of non-profit and HUD assisted organizations in the Middle Georgia area.  Her responsibilities include ensuring audits are performed properly and completed timely in accordance with professional standards and government and grantor regulations.  She meets with clients, recruits new business, attends board meetings and prepares non-profit information returns.

Anita says, "I like working with a wonderful group of people and assisting clients in their reporting responsibilities and the navigation of a complex government and non-profit environment."  Her greatest aspiration is to help women develop careers of their own and inspire others to join the accounting profession.

Anita lives in Macon with her husband of 19 years and has a Labrador Retriever named Brody.  She likes to read and exercise.  Anita has been a member of CWN since 2002. Anita says. "I'm very proud of how long I've been a member!  I love the dynamic and interesting group of women that CWN unites. I enjoy leaning something new about someone at the meetings."

When asked if she were mentoring someone, what is the most important advice she could give them regarding achieving professional success, Anita replied, "Do your best and work hard in whatever you do.  Don't let someone else define your success.  If one thing doesn't work, try something else.  Believe in yourself always."
Congratulations
