dates: October 30th – November 7th 2016
All About Jazz, on performance at EJN sept. 13

Henning Bolte, All About Jazz, on the performance at EJN

“The last night was opened by the other Trondheim cornerstone, Trondheim Voices, a ten female vocalists ensemble (Torunn Sævik, Siri Gjære, Sissel Vera Pettersen, Ingrid Lode, Live Maria Roggen, Kirsti Huke, Heidi Skjerve, Anita Kaasbøl, Silje Karlsen, Tone Åse). Its fascinating loosely semi-improvised work unfolds during perpetual movement of the ensemble members through the performance space. It can be a conventional stage as in this case but also other kinds of architectural or natural spaces. Trondheim Voices surprised and pleased many spectators by their highly appealing way of melding new approaches of vocalism in a version of their very own creative signature. Its performance was a convincing manifestation how daring experiments lead into viable formats.
Anodyniske refleksjoner

TRONDHEIM VOICES & BATAGRAF «On Anodyne», Victoria – Nasjonal jazzscene, Oslo: torsdag 6. mars 2015
Sammen presenterte de en meditativ reise som strakk seg fra Molde, til Oslo, til USA og til Vest-Afrika, «… I love this body/ … This skin, this sac of dung/ & joy, this spleen floating/ like a compass needle inside/ nighttime, always divining/ West Africa’s dusty horizon./ … because I know I was born/ to wear out at least/ one hundred angels.» og tilbake.

Hele anmeldelsen HER
Trondheim Voices is booking the release tour for their coming record “On Anodyne”. “On Anodyne” is a work composed and performed by Jon Balke for Trondheim Voices and Batagraf.

The record is recorded in Rainbow Studio by Jan Erik Kongshaug, and will come out on the Norwegian label Grappa in October 2016.

On Anodyne is composed for vocals and percussion and inspired by the West African Woloff-tradition. Balke has taken as his outset the endless possibilities and harmonic richness of Trondheim Voices’ and Batagraf’s complex rhythmical universe. “On Anodyne” is a celebratory piece to the body, music and the essence of human being.

“Grippingly beautiful, grippingly raw and brutal”    - Johan Hauknes - Salt Peanuts

Trondheim Voices is working with the endless possibilities that exists within vocal improvisation and wishes to explore the edges of what can be done with the voice, to find new expressions and new music. Consisting of 9 individual soloists, Trondheim Voices wishes to develop what happens when the unique soloist quality of each singer is set to interact with each other, and to find the collective sound and feeling
