Loving God,

We thank You for a new year.
May everyone in our family be willing
to begin anew with a clean slate.
We know that You are always ready to forgive us.
Help us to be willing to forgive ourselves
and to forgive one another.

As we begin a new year,
remind us of our truest values
and our deepest desires.
Help us to live in the goodness
that comes from doing what You want us to do.
Help us to put aside anxiety about
the future and the past,
so that we might live in peace
with You now, one day at a time.

Amen.

Senior High

Sophomore Retreat

The sophomore class retreat is coming up on the weekend of January 30-31. We will be focusing on the call to mission in life and in faith. We want to instill in the students the importance of living out a faith in every day situations. How do we do that? Why do we do that? Why is it necessary or relevant today? Particularly, we're hoping to promote and foster an inclusive, spiritual, respectful and meaningful community among each class. For the sophomores, this retreat will be pertinent to the life of that community. Please contact Charlie Keyes with questions or to get more information.
Junior High

Wolf Ridge Field Trip

The entire 8th grade class will be traveling to Wolf Ridge February 15-19, 2016. Information has already been sent home to parents concerning this field trip; however, if there are any 8th grade parents who have not yet volunteered to chaperone and would like to, please contact Dave Platt

Shrek, Jr. the Musical Auditions

Auditions for the junior high musical, Shrek, Jr., will be held Tuesday, January 5, 3-7 p.m. in the theater. Show dates are March 4-6, 2016. Those students wishing to audition for a lead role should prepare to sing a song from a Broadway musical. Those wishing for a chorus role only, may sing as a group. Please dress comfortably, for movement, and wear footwear you can move around in easily. Questions may be directed to Caroline Stroh.

Save the Date- Junior High Ski Day!

The junior high will be going to Afton Alps during the school day Tuesday, February 9.  Students will have the choice to ski or snowboard and may bring their own equipment or rent from Afton. Students who rent equipment will participate in a group lesson. Experienced students pass through the lesson and ski independently. We encourage all students to participate. Watch for permission slips at the end of January.

Transition from Junior High to Senior High

The BSM admissions team wants the transition from junior high to senior high to be a seamless one. As a result, current BSM 8th grade students do not need to complete an application for 9th grade. All 8th grade students are automatically moved forward in the application process. They do not need to take the admissions placement exam on Saturday, January 16. This exam is for new applicants only. The same exam will be administered to all 8th grade students in class on Thursday, January 21. There will be a special activity during Catholic Schools Week where students will get a chance to learn more about the senior high and what it means to be a Red Knight. Happy New Year!

Guidance

Parents of Seniors:

  1. Scholarships from colleges:  Look on each of your colleges’ websites for scholarships. You can find this information in the admissions section of a college’s website. Many colleges use the application for admission to award scholarships, but some colleges require that you fill out an additional scholarship application for some or all of their scholarships. Typically, college scholarship applications are due between December and February, but some may be earlier.
  2. Local and National Scholarships (Not from a college): To locate scholarship information in Naviance, from the home page, click on the "Colleges" tab, and scroll down to the bottom of the page. The "scholarship list" and "National Scholarship Search" are located here. Other helpful sites are bigfuture.collegeboard.org, fastweb.com, scholarships.com. Scholarship searches should be FREE. You should not pay for this service or to apply for a scholarship.
  3. The College Financial Aid Program for Parents of Seniors is Wednesday, January 6, 7 p.m. in the BSM theater. Jeron Schmidt, associate director for Admissions at Northland College, and Danielle Whitney, admissions counselor for Iowa State, will be presenting. They will discuss the financial aid process, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and CSS Profile forms, and sources to help pay for college.
