  1. Sunday Morning #11: Lackluster: https://soundcloud.com/dannydaze/sunday-morning-11-lackluster
  2. Music For Programming #37: Lackluster: http://musicforprogramming.net/?thirtyseven
  3. DJ Nu-Teq: Introduction to Lackluster: https://soundcloud.com/nuteq/introduction-to-lackluster
DJ Danny Daze asked me to do an episode for his Sunday Morning -podcast series. I asked him what it was all about, since I'm not a DJ and can't beatmatch to save my life, and he gave me this brief:
"Sunday Morning is a mix series dedicated to pushing artists and labels who intend on pursuing the beauty in downtempo/chill-wave music. The focus is centered on experimental yet eloquent productions. This mix series is made in order to wind down and relax after a long night out, or simply listen to something other than dance music. I grew up with record labels like M3rck and Schematic based out of Miami, and have always searched for mixes which included these sort of sounds after a long weekend of traveling. Having not found many, I decided to make this an ongoing series. Enjoy the soundscape."
After a lot of hmming and hawing, here's my episode, which turned out to be number 11 in the series!

Thanks for giving me the opportunity and then having saint-like patience during the late delivery, Danny

You can find more information about DJ Danny Daze on his Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Soundcloud.
Way back on the 14th of August 2012 I got a message from John Datassette via Soundcloud asking for a mix for his Music for Programming -series.

So, what is Music for Programming all about? Quoting from their page titled "About", interestingly enough:
"Through years of trial and error - skipping around internet radio stations, playing our entire music collections on shuffle, or just hammering single albums on repeat, we have found that the most effective music to aid prolonged periods of intense concentration tends to have a mixture of the following qualities:

Drones
Noise
Fuzz
Field recordings
Vagueness (Hypnagogia)
Textures without rhythm
Minor complex chords
Early music (Baroque, lute, harpsichord)
Very few drums or vocals
Synth arpeggios
Awesome
Walls of reverb

Music possessing these qualities can often provide just the right amount of interest to occupy the parts of your brain that would otherwise be left free to wander and lead to distraction during your work."

So, 3 years later, I sent in my drone mixtape, and it was released on the 25th of December 2015, at episode #37, no less!

Me and DJ Nu-Teq go a long way back, having met in 2003 at the Bergen-based Ekko Festival, and again in 2005 for another repeat of Ekko.

We lately had a plan to approach a Norwegian festival organiser and see if they wouldn't book me for two sets as Lackluster (melodic electronica) and as Esa Ruoho (ambient drone). Things don't always come to pass, but I wound up sending Bandcamp download codes for all of my material to Nu-Teq, and suddenly he pinged me about two or three weeks ago and stated that he had created a "Best Of" DJ Mix!

Needless to say, I was both surprised and gladdened by this effort. Here is what he wrote by way of intro:
I went through the whole catalogue of finnish electronic artist Lackluster and made a "best of" version to get you aquainted with his brilliant sounds.

You should hit him up on: http://lackluster.bandcamp.com/

Thanks for the lovely effort, DJ Nu-Teq!
I think we mentioned a video at the start of this newsletter. Well, here it is - Zden of Satori made an upscaled version for better quality of this little demonstration from 2000. I'll let Zden have a word:

Different Engine [..] was the first piece of demoart radically influenced by broken net.art aesthetics. Lackluster's music welded seamless with defragmented images and resulted in small but very solid audio-visual experience.

Did you know this about Lackluster? (Lackluster Factoid #05)

"What would Helsinki be like right now, if all the grandiose architectural city-utopias of the 1960s had come to fruition?" I hear no-one ask. Ok, maybe there's one person at the back of the room with a raised hand.

Well, turns out Helsingin Sanomat did want to know, so they commissioned a Shockwave-based presentation, using 6 tracks in total - two of which, BKT and Doused, were delivered by me - the rest by Sami Liuski (of 8bit Rockers).

If you're lucky enough to get it working, go right on ahead! HS: Klik! -arkisto: Helsingin Utopiat
P.S.: There's actually an easter egg in this newsletter of a new release. It is released today.

Mail me at info@lackluster.org with the name of it, if you find it - I'll pick a winner and send them some digital download goodies.

P.P.S.: Finally! Scored a human-readable YouTube channel name :) Feast your eyes on http://youtube.com/c/LacklusterOfficial
