Dear Friends:
We rejoice with you for helping make 2015 a blessed year. As we begin looking toward what 2016 will bring, Suzanne and I want to tell you about a lesser-known ministries, The Student Scholarship Fund. Through your gifting, 30 young people from our village are attending high school. In Ghana, the government provides education through junior high. After junior high, less than 15% continue on to high school.
The high school scholarships are managed by a team of Ashesi students who set the policies and guidelines for the scholarships and then select which students receive them. For me, the best part is watching the critical thinking of our Ashesi students in action. Ashesi students excel at designing solutions like this scholarship fund: first identifying the issues, then deciding what a good solution would look like, and finally implementing their solution with the village young people.

Currently, the scholarship funds 30 students, two-thirds new this year, and the rest had grades of Bs or better and were continued from last year. The scholarship pays 70% of the cost of tuition, and the families come up with the rest (this policy and Bs or better are examples of guidelines set by the Ashesi students).
