15th Anniversary of Improving Federal Access to the Limited English Proficient

With  350 languages spoken in the U.S. and 25 million are considered to be of limited English proficiency. This includes the API community which consists of 21% of the limited English population speaking over 80 different languages and dialects.  Recognizing the need to better serve this population, Executive Order 13166 was issued in 2000 to ensure that limited English proficient individuals are able to receive information and services in a meaningful and accessible manner from federal agencies.  The various government agencies are also leveraging data and new technologies to better understand how to improve outreach, education and communication with the limited English proficiency population
