Introducing Halifax’s new Bike-Friendly Certification program
The Cities & Environment Unit (CEU), in partnership with Halifax SmartTrip and Rarebird Brand Strategy & Design, has launched a Bike-Friendly Certification program.
Demonstrate your support for a vital and growing constituency of occasional and daily cyclists looking for bike-friendly options. Through Bike-Friendly Certification, your business or organization will stand out in the eyes of potential employees, clients, and customers as a leader in growing a cycling-supportive city.
Businesses, schools, and other organizations that participate in the program will receive a level of certification based on their level of support for cycling as a viable transportation choice for their staff, tenants, clients, customers, or students.

Making Tracks Partnership Request
This year already, together we trained over 2500 children and youth in Making Tracks active transportation safety and skills. We also provided program leader training (train-the-trainer) for more than 200 adults and older youth. Since 2008, we have delivered training to more than 10,000 children and youth and 700 adults and older youth. This success would not have been possible without direct community partnerships with folks like you including providing facilities for training sessions, funds to subsidize trainer fees, outreach to your local partners, volunteers and community members, and providing reporting data for our programs.
I want to sincerely thank you all for all of your hard work and support. An example of our success last year is that we trained recreation staff with the Towns of Kentville and Wolfville, CBRM and Halifax to deliver Making Tracks programs as part of their summer programming. The Halifax Try-A-Ride program was one of our particularly unique partnerships in that we lent our expertise and support to build an adapted Making Tracks curriculum as well as provide leader training for their staff. This program engaged 1000 children and youth in experiences to safely wheel in various ways (http://www.halifax.ca/rec/Try-A-Ride.php).
We’d like to expand on successes like these again this year. With spring programs being planned already I wanted to ask for your support again this coming year.
