Motion to Intervene deadline Jan. 6, 2016, 5:00 PM

Not sure how to Intervene?
Workshops abound!

In a joint effort, leaders from StopNED, PLAN-NE, No Fracked Gas in Mass and Hilltown Community Rights pulled together training materials on How to File a Motion to Intervene. The instructions and samples are now available HERE
Feel free to use these materials for yourself, or your local group.

WHO SHOULD INTERVENE? EVERYONE!

Anyone and everyone can intervene. Even if you're not in a pipeline-affected town, all of the Northeast would be impacted by the construction of the Northeast Energy Direct pipeline - higher energy prices when gas hits the import market, continued reliance on fossil fuels and possible tariffs for rate-payers in New England affect the broader regional community.

Your personal intervention is critical, but interventions can also come from town goverment, from local organizations like the sportsmen’s club or land trust, faith organizations like churches and temples, businesses or professional associations. These organizations can file to intervene separately from the individual members.

We've been getting good feedback from our Do-It-Yourself instructions on intervening, with most people reporting that it took a half hour or less to complete.

Kinder Morgan files answers to FERC's requests for additional information

Surprise! Supplemental filings in response to FERC's extensive requests for answers have been mostly as light on substance as the original application materials contained in the Resource Reports. Three rounds of replies made in the last week have supplied left many still wanting.

Among the information requested by FERC was more information on alternative routes - specifically the routes that would follow the Mass. Turnpike or the existing 200-line pipelines at the south side of the state. Both of these routes would follow the existing pipeline in Berkshire County through towns like Lenox and Richmond that were relieved when the preferred route moved north. There was also mention of the Rte. 2 alternative route across the northern part of Massachusetts, which would bring the pipeline back to towns there that fought the original pipeline path.

So far, these are requests for more complete information on those routes, not a request to "move the pipeline" as some have feared. Kinder Morgan's preferred route remains essentially the same as what was filed on November 20, 2015 (small adjustments notwithstanding). It is, however a reminder that this pipeline proposal is still no more set in stone than it ever has been. Staying apprised of changes made throughout the FERC process and, very importantly, FILING FOR INTERVENOR STATUS, remains crucial for town government and individuals throughout the five states that would be affected by this pipeline, regardless of current proximity to the route.
Deadline for filing is JANUARY 6, 2016, 5:00 PM.

Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. responds to FERC questions

By TOM RELIHAN, Recorder Staff
Tuesday, December 29, 2015

A promised response to questions from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission filed by Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. Tuesday answered hundreds of comments from interested parties about some specifics of the proposed Northeast Energy Direct project, but fell short of addressing most of the more highly anticipated questions.

In particular, the 503-page document lacked an evaluation of each of the alternatives for the pipeline’s final route and the compressor stations to be sited along the way. TGP said it expects to release that information on Thursday.

Many opponents of the project are still not satisfied, characterizing the initial application and Tuesday’s responses as “half-baked” or “evasive” and criticizing the company for expecting stakeholders to wait for more answers as the project progresses.

Thanks to your support,
we can keep on fighting!

As the FERC process continues, there will be lots more information to share with local communities. We're just starting a new year (or possibly longer) of research and guidance to help keep everyone informed and participating in the fight. This requires substantial ongoing operating funds to keep us working at optimal effectiveness.
