A Holiday Message from Mark V. Case, Chair, HCDP

It's been a long year with ups and downs.  We have much to be thankful for, and we have much to mourn for.  The Holiday's are a time of reflection!  How did we do in lifewere we able to make a difference!  The answer can only be found in each of our own perceptions, and no one can answer the question but ourselves.

This much I can attest to have seen at the HCDP during my watch.  A bunch of loving/ caring people donating their time, resources, and money diligently trying to better the lives of others.  Each has taken time away from their familiestime they can never recover for themselvestime that often goes unnoticed by others; all in the pursuit of helping others.

We have fought for worker rights, jobs, freedom of religion, decent health care, voting rights, gun safety laws, equality, fair pay, etc.  Some battles we have won, some we have lost; but we have been in the fight!  What we win others constantly try to take away, what we lose others try to fortify away in hopes we will not go after again!  We constantly fight the battle, because nothing is given freely!  We all have to realize that the battle forever ragesit's a never ending war between right and wrong.  We have to be there to uncover the truth, and blow back the blackened fog that hides it sometimes.

When you have time to reflect upon the year, feel the pride in that you were a part of this battle.  Willing to be a WE vs a ME!  Willing to stand up for others, not just yourself.  Be proud to be part of a movement, be proud to be a part of history!

Be proud of the work you helped accomplish this year in support of yourself, your family, your friends, your community, your state, and your nation!

You are special, and I love each and every one of you!  May your Christmas and New Year be fulfilling, healthy, and loving!

Mark V. Case
HCDP Chair

A display and brochures are available on the desk at HQ; a full brochure and sign up capability are on our website.  Our team and Cathy Fisher, our treasurer, stand ready to assist if you have questions. The BAC drive will be at full speed in January and February so we can succeed in building a healthy monthly income for the full year 2016 to accomplish our goals!  Spread the word, share the responsibility, give what works for you, and know it's perfect!

COMING IN JANUARY!

JAN 2 – OUR BREAKFAST 9-11 WILL HAVE A SPEAKER AT 11!  Melinda Lowrance, Pres. of our local NAACP will speak on “Why women of color Need the ERA” (Equal Rights Amendment–NC still has not ratified this law and we need three more states).  Come hear this amazing woman’s perspective and strength of conviction.  Lee Luebbe will host and introduce Melinda.

JAN 8 – The Board will meet from 10-12 on the same day as the CEC mtg. at 3:30.  The usual day, Jan 1, is reserved for FOOTBALL!
JAN 18 – MLK DAY BREAKFAST AT Blue Ridge Community College starting at 8 am is one of the outstanding highlights of the year in Hendersonville.  If you have never attended, put it on your calendar NOW!  Watch for further details and for Madeline Royes to be selling tickets at the CEC meeting. Tickets also will be available at the door.  Meet new people, and enjoy wonderful entertainment and tributes to Martin Luther King.

SPECIFIC HELP NEEDED FOR A NEW PROJECT
 – Lenore Barnett who is heading up the creation of a new Event Location Directory, would like to hear from volunteers wishing to help.  We have a one-page location information sheet to fill out for each location we visit.  And we are interested in having at least two locations in each outlying municipality so we can move around the County.  There are numerous sites in Hendersonville proper to explore.  If you want to help, please call Lenore at 696-3132.

HAVE YOU FILLED OUT YOUR VIA?  PLEASE DO!  (And thanks to the many volunteers we already have working in many areas!)    Find the Volunteer in Action Interest Profile in a blue file in a box on the desk at HQ; put your completed form in the red folder where it will be shared with leaders whose areas you checked.  Precinct work, election work, phoning, 2-hour office duty, are just a few of the important "job openings" we have currently!  Do the "Profile" and call Nancy at 606-5201.  (Nancy will be away until Jan 19).

SHARING ENCOURAGEMENT – Send out your good vibes to those among us who are experiencing challenges ... when one or more of the family is down for one reason or another, let us know how we can help as needed and support you!  Gayle Kemp sends cards out from HCDP also!
January 2 – Melinda Lowrance, President of our local NAACP chapter, will speak at 11am on Why Women of Color Need the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment–NC still has not ratified this law, and we need three more states).  Come hear this amazing woman’s perspective and strength of conviction.  Lee Luebbe will host and introduce Melinda.

Also, please come meet and chat with two Democratic candidates who are running for office in 2016, and who will be attending our January 2 breakfast:

Norm Bossert, NC State Senate, District 48
Maureen Copelof, NC State House of Representatives, District 113
