Roger did advise them to install barriers during the weekend, but as at 2.20pm on Saturday there were none to be seen. Let's hope that they appear before the JLR cars arrive.
Petition for a reduction in the speed limit on London Road

So far 35 people have signed Mark’s e-petition for a reduction in the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph on a section of London Road from Allard Way to Chase Avenue?

Demolition of Quinton Road Toilets

The Friends of Quinton Pool have informed us that the toilet block is due to be demolition on 5th January 2016.
Black Prince Avenue Parking Issues Petition
Early last year Roger & Hazel put in a petition for the residents around Black Prince Avenue with respect to the problems they face from JLR cars parking in their roads. The Council has now responded to their petition.
This is the petition. Here is the Council's response.
Tollbar Works Update
From Alan Jones, Galliford Try
Dear Hazel/Roger,
I am pleased to say that Highways England issued a press statement last Friday, which was the basis of a newspaper article in the Coventry Telegraph for Saturday 19th December. The article is quite informative, here is the link..
This is a copy of letter which is being distributed to local residents, as well as Parish Councils and local businesses.
I will also be notifying the EHO for Coventry. The reason for notifying them is when additional work on the bridges commends in the new year, some operations will be 24 hr working, and we are conscious of any noise impact issues, particularly London Road cul-de-sac and Montgomery Close areas. When we have more accurate dates in January I will pass these on.
Pavement resurfacing in Charminster Drive, Fenside Avenue and Gregory Hood Road.
After our last update (20th December) a resident asked us why Charminster Drive, Fenside Avenue and Gregory Hood Road pavements were being resurfaced as they were not included in the original Council highway report listing works to be done in the current financial year.
This is the response from Glen Robinson, Highways Asset Management Engineer
Dear Cllr Bailey,
In response to your query about pavement resurfacing in Charminster Drive, Fenside Avenue and Gregory Hood Road, the decision to resurface the pavements on these three roads was agreed with Whitefriars, Councillor Noonan and a resident’s spokesperson. This work is funded by Whitefriars’ Right to Buy budget which can only be spent in the Whitefriars’ area.
Modbury Close and Postbridge Road are aged paved footways and will be added to the forward programme list for treatment consideration. This list is reviewed on an annual basis and all sites across the City are systematically scored to produce a priority list for treatment in a given year, this priority list is then considered against budget allocation in that year.
I hope this helps, if you require further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
Cheylesmore Mistletoe Trees

The tree wardens have sent this update:
We have asked for a reprieve on the trees now that much of the mistletoe has been removed. We told Tim Wetherhill that the residents do not want to see them cut down and we could see no reason why they should not be monitored at least for the time being. They do not present a hazard where they are. Apart from which, it seems they are a valuable asset!
If anyone notices, one of the trees was attacked by "vandals" on Thursday 17th December who removed the whole side to steal the mistletoe (damage done is circled in yellow). They left tell-tale ruts on the verge of the island and stumps where they chopped branches off. That was not our doing.
Not sure how many bunches we sold, I should think at least 500 & we raised £875.
We haven't completely cleared the trees, but we take a bit more off after Xmas. We would leave some to continue to grow. I believe mistletoe is a hemi-parasite which gets some food from the tree but also photosynthesises. It only becomes a problem when there is so much on a branch it is too heavy and the branch may then fall.
Could you pass on a message to your councillors please, that if residents have concerns about trees they can always ask us to have a look and offer advice before consulting the tree officers. Sadly, their instant reaction is virtually always to fell the tree, especially since we have lost our park’s tree officer. Felling is rarely an immediate necessity and we would always hope to monitor while a replacement is given chance to grow which will reduce the impact of the loss.
I have not had time to look at the chestnut in Quinton Park that was mentioned in your newsletter, but their demise is usually slow and there will be a big gap if it is removed. The replacement trees are always small, so a few years of growth will make a big difference. The aim of the wardens is to only fell as a last resort and to minimise the impact of felling wherever possible. Sadly, trees are not given the respect they deserve in this city. Their environmental and health values are huge and becoming increasingly important with pollution and climate change. Sorry to preach, but we so need to get this message across.
New School Proposal on Alice Stevens Site
A reminder that a new school for children with severe learning difficulties is to be built on the old Alice Stevens School Site because the Tiverton School in Coundon will close.
Local residents are invited to a consultation meeting at Whitley Abbey Primary School on Friday 15th January 2016 5pm till 5.30pm.
